DMU update 3

As mentioned in my previous post, the DMU has now been painted, the blue and yellow with Halfords paint, the underframe and roofs with paint I've mixed up.

Work has now started on weathering, as mentioned, I'm trying to represent a shabby and tired unit, with grubby, faded paintwork. Lots of work to do yet, but I'm happy with progress so far.

Looking good Matt

Just about the right level of dirt arround the hinges etc for an in service unit. I assume from your comments that you are going to fade the blue a bit too?

Cheers

Jim

Hi Matt

Happy New Year!!

Not been following the web too closely of late so a little out of touch. Are you embarking on a new project or is this wonderful piece of modelling an addition to your shelf layout?

Additionally, couldn't help noticing your excellent snaps of the remains of the old Anglesey Central at Llangefni and its environs - coincidentally, I did a fair bit of research on its neigbour, the old Red Wharf Bay branch over 30 years ago now but never got round to building it - same old story!! Although I did purchase a LNWR 2-4-2 from the Gem stable of whitemetal kits plus an LNWR brake van for which I commisioned the services of a local model maker. Needless to say, neither has been used and both remain in the loft somewhere or other !!!

I discovered the branch after studying an old OS map of my father's. We spent many wonderful family holidays in an old fisherman's cottage adjacent to the shore in Red Wharf in the mid to late '60s - a week at Whit and six weeks in the summer. I have many fond memories.

There's very little left now apart from one or two occupation bridges and abutments, although the course of the old track can be easily identified in many places along its length.

Anyway, thanks for the memories and I'm pleased to discover that you're reinspired.

Best wishes,

Jonte.

Cheers for the comments!

Thanks for the comments Jim. James, you're right, the blue has been faded although it's not obvious in the photos due to the lighting.

Thanks for getting in touch Jonte, the DMU is neither for a new project or for my layout, it's just a project that's been on the 'to do' list for ages.

Thanks for the comments re the ACR, I live near Llangefni now and, ironically, the Red Wharf Bay branch is local to where my parents live, so I'm familiar with both.
