In Go The Point Motors - Eventually...
There 's no photo to go with this really... Somewhere along the line the two curved points that these two motors drive had moved a bit - the heels were about 4mm from where the should be according to the marking out. This might not sound a lot, but when the hoes for the operating rods are 6mm it mounts up a bit and both motors would operate fine in normal position, but not quite do it reversed. Both needed their holes opening up by about 1mm.
Lesson 1 : The Twistlock motors have to operate in line with the tie-bar, trying to be clever just means they jam.
Lesson 2 : Opening the hole out with a needle file through the gubbins associated with the spring works, but I now know the tie bar can slide up and down the point blades, and the spring is easy to get back in. Still, no harm done, all working now.
Lesson 3 : Drilling up from underneath with a big bit to open the hole works, but one slip and the spring gubbins would be scrap. It worked though.
Lesson 4 : Mark things out properly :-)
Still, all done and working. The rest of the section switches turned up and have been fitted to the control panel and wired. Just two more point motors and three sections I can't lay until I can get three yards of track and then track electrics will be done.
