More S&T - Rodding First.

Miserable

Spent a long time making four, three, two and indeed 1 lots of stools and 'concrete' supports. Last time I forgot to mention about cleaning up the webs between adjacent roller stools.

While it's kind of satisfying to know the webs have been cut away, the reality is that what with ballast, painting/weathering and just smallness in general it will be impossible to see the difference, so after a few I didn't bother.

This week's big blunder box item was also rodding related. I should have picked rodding routes as I laid the track, since I now realise I have to cut away the plastic webs under the rails where appropriate. This was rather brutal, but so far tradgedy-free. it would have been much easier to do it before laying though.

Here we see studious ignoring of the carefully measured placings. There is a reason - I forgot to allow for the 'bent' ends of the rods and support of said ends.... I've now found a document on-line that details correct compensator usage, which is great news, as by following the lore of every 210mm. I'd have had to buy 6 more crank etches that only have 2 per etch - and bin all the cranks (80% of the sheet). I had doubts after looking at pictures of trains in stations and saw that often compensators appeared to be spaced at between four and five coach lengths. I've not done the sums yet but will post when I've done it and positioned the aforementioned thingies on the layout - quite a lot further apart.

Probably should have put the covers back on the point springs before spraying...
