Coping with post-prandial lethargy.

Having consumed a wonderful takeaway Sunday roast - and pud - I really had to apply a virtual boot up the backside to crack on with some work in the shed prior to the weather going all mammaries up for the rest of the week.  Having run out of Dapol OHL masts with three more needed, stringing the knitting had to wait, so I turned my attention to platform work.  Since I moved it back to the old through road trackbed, there's been some uncomfortable gaps between the platform edge and the recessed arches of the retaining wall.  I figured HMRI might be having words with me so I've affixed some nice laser-cut fencing from Torri Laser in Conwy to the back of the platform.  I also repainted, weathered and modified the two waiting rooms of indeterminate origin, adding surplus "lift tower" modules I'd 3d printed for a previous plan to form a lavatory unit.  Wednesford is a basic 1960s rebuild, and as the entrance and buffet are at the country end of the platform, Wednesford's first class passengers were seriously displeased when they realised they would be waiting in the rain.  So, Bodgette and Faircough, the local dodgy builders, were retained to build some enclosed waiting rooms which, being a later addition, don't match the other station "Mod-X" design buildings.20210307_171559.jpg.61f9d47cdd4f56140b6117d15e65797d.jpg

I'll probably separate the two modules a bit to avoid the jerry-built roof gap, and to give a bit more room to access the bogs.

The revised track layout and minimalist platform buildings.  The staircase, canopies, platform buffet (with interior) and platform planters/benches are all 3d printed, the buffet being scaled and designed to match the Pola/Playcraft buildings used at the entrance to the station.  Next time I do a platform I'm going back to Peco kits, I only used the Wills platform kits because I couldn't get hold of Peco and my 3d printed experiments didn't work out.  They were a right nightmare to build, and I've ended up with some decidedly dodgy levels and joints. I might end up seeing if I can apply filler to the gaps to see if that might reduce the overall mess.

Tunnel under Market Square.  Having a single bi-directional platform face, I've now decided to have an electrified freight bi-di avoiding line, made by extending the old bay platform under the town.  Conveniently a large support pillar installed when the road was widened above means a wider than average 6ft meaning single line masts can be used, instead of gantries.  Hence the odd arrangement of the OHLE.  It also leaves room for the telecoms trunking and some planting for the Wednesford in Bloom PTS trained Ninjas to plant up.

The ballasted road in the foreground is the alignment of the old bay platform, the new through road having been moved to roughly where the old platform face was.  Ballasting still to be finished.  In the background, the platform railings.20210307_171452.jpg.c0860c79e4c904af7900372e9252acc9.jpg

I've also managed to raise Aunty Edna's sweet factory by dint of a spare offcut of batten.  Previously the brick facing on the base of the units was hidden behind the retaining wall making the factory look a little too squat.  I'll plant some nice greenery in the gap between the factory wall and the retaining wall.

Finally the end of Ramsbottom Row has had some trees added to disguise the half-depth nature of the row.  In reality, it's unlikely you would have a tree that close to a house, not without serious structural consequences, but I think we can just about get away with it.

So, tomorrow I'll glue the concrete troughs in place and then make a start on ballasting.
