A pair of CR coaches refurbished.

It is not uncommon for me to look back at things I made as a learner and realise that they need to be sorted out. Some can be refurbished, others are just fit for parts.

My earliest attempt at etched brass coaches was this pair. A D 8 five compartment first and a D 10 brake composite. Both were from John Boyle etches, the bodies went together well. However they ran on a Cleminson style suspension which caused problems. The ends were not controlled laterally leading to problems with buffer locking and off centre couplings and they were wobbly runners. I did try to sort them out a while back, this time I went for fixed and rocking ends and a floating centre axle which has done the trick. Some cosmetic paintwork repairs and gas pipes added completed the job.

A photo of them passing through Kelvinbank, they look ok from a distance.

The leading vehicle is a D 116 fish van. It really is a bit out of place since they were built 1914 for working Aberdeen to Southhampton and Tilbury. It is from a Caley Coaches kit and runs well.

Anyway this has got me thinking about 6 wheel stock. Something to add to the build list.
