(11) Step By Step
Progress on the first baseboard continues (slowly!) I now have some diagonal bracing, which has made the board pretty rigid. I have also added a sandwich of scrap ply in the corner where the inner baseboard edge and the backscene will curve sharply round to the second baseboard.
The plywood sandwich is bottom right on the photo below. I shall cut this to its final shape when I know exactly where the curve should be. The scrap ply will not be in view when the board is finished.
I also have to make a cutout in the framework for the turntable on the scenic part of the board, marked with black diagonals....
...which brings me on to the baseboard top.
The plywood has now been marked with a 150mm grid. This will help me place the paper track plan accurately, without building up cumulative errors.
Once the track plan is stuck to the plywood top, I aim to cut it to the correct shape and use the resulting curve as a template for cutting out the curved edge on the baseboard. Only then will I secure the baseboard top to the baseboard. At least that's the plan.
The backscene will eventually follow the curved part of the baseboard and continue at the same radius in the adjacent scenic board.
