Rethinking the bridge

I like to think I am open to suggestions and advice, and a couple of people have pointed out that the road bridge in this scale is too narrow. Fair to say that at a scale 9' it was only ever going to be a single track road , or a representation of half of it ! I do have nice Fiat 500 that makes it look wide though

:)

My Dad who although a boat modeller follows this blog (Hi Dad) suggested making it wider by extending it to the right over the sector plate so it would take up very little extra scenic space, but having sat an starred at it for a while I began to feel that the pillars (which will be concrete) were not big enough for a bigger road weight, and due to clearance issues I cant make them wider. So the second suggestion I received from other followers of the garden shed exploits was to make it a footbridge.

So here are the preliminary results. Due to not taking the layout out of the shed to do the work the two halfs are shown here seperatly but hopefully you get the idea of how the staircase will be across the baseboard join.

The parapet walls are shown using some strip wood I had lying about, roughly the right height I think but at 11mm (scale 11") probably too thick.

Im trying for the cast concrete look on the steps but they need a bit more meat on the back yet

Pointing man has found a hole in the floor, its where I spot drilled through to get the round central support columns in the same place at the top and bottom.

Having measured out how much sits on the other baseboard this is how it will project onto the station baseboard on this half.

The angular piece of timber under the staircase is just there to hold it up for the photo.

The parapet thickness is a compromise between a 2-brick thickness and 3-bricks (9" and 12.5"). The railway companies seemed to be generous in their wall building!

If anything, I would say that the wall is too low, there is scope for pointing man to commit Hari-Kari!

The alternative would have been a cast-iron parapet, But it's your model.....and coming along nicely. :icon_clap:
