rolleyes.gif Metro's Blog commences 11/10/09:

Woke up with sore head. Son refused to go to his work at MacDonalds because of his cold and I told him that his cold was nothing compared to my bloody hangover so off he went............

Wife went off to work 10 am (hooray!!) so it's modelling time!!!!!

This very much took my fancy yesterday at Taunton so I bought it. Loco has smoke and lights and I'll add a sound chip this week. Coaches are lit. I wonder who built it?? It's old'ish and needs new transfers........

To christen the new site; I had thought to cast this build in verse

But then thought folk might be adverse

Still

In keeping with my Maunsell theme

A nice H2 would seem

To add some class to those who deem

The poor old Southern in low esteem

This kit by DJH would seem to fit the bill

Even if the chassis is a bit agriculturil??ohmy.gif

This jig thingy is invaluable for setting up a chassis. Even a rigid old DJH job:

Oh DJH

your frames of brass

crude and ugly

end in the trash.

Oh DJH

When will you learn

to nickel silver

you must now turn.

Sorry! ;)

Sorry! wink.gif

Pathetic Pinkmouse!! wink.gif

Ugly it's true

But bulletproof. And few

will go wrong with their chassis

So they appeal to the masses!

Now here's a hint I can relate;

With that jig you can compensate! tongue.gif

Compensate for what???

My track's as smooth as a babies bot!rolleyes.gif

Actually; I've a mind to build it in the style of Bob Dylan (Just to please Pinkmouse);

'Lay Lady Lay. Lay across my big brass chassis......':

I came home absolutely knackered

In two hours I'd built this chassis

Chill out Pinkmouse: Have some funbiggrin.gif

Build'em quick and see them run!

Don't worry 'bout complications

That....make......building ....a....loco......into.......a........drag!!!biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

With the exception of the smokebox door the castings were absolutely perfect.!! The door was too big and I lost the rivet detail on the smokebox itself filing it down to size which I'll replace with Archers Transfers. And the handle had been cast onto it! Fould and horrid; so I made my own:

It's done! And runs fine.

Earl Marsh was a bit of crook by what I have read! These H2's were built after Marsh had resigned as CME at Brighton. They are hansom superheated engines though!!! Southern fanatics will no doubt spot the possible error with my model! Or will they???

As far as the kit is concerned:

1) Chassis - Basic and standard with their C1 and H1. 4/10

2) Body and Castings. Simply excellent. Let down by smokebox door though. 8/10

3) Level of detail 7/10

4) Ease of construction and instructions 8/10

5) Chassis fit to body without fouling 8/10

Overall - 35/50
