I'd forgotten how much fun it is riding a BMX...

Down at Paxton Road today 37013 had arrived from Didcot.

So of course I've not actually ridden my BMX for over 5 years! But I've been tinkering on Paxton Road this evening. After my experiment with Carr's Steel Blackening on Nickel Silver rail I applied it to the rails on Paxton Road. A worthwhile transformation? I'll let you make your mind up - I think it's worth it - it definitely takes the golden tinge off the rail surface.

I thought it might be worth showing a few overview shots...

The warehouse is now placed on the layout - and I've painted the sleepers with Humbrol 98 - this area was originally planned to be a road surface with inset rails - however I don't think the overhead crane I was planning visually works, nor does it fit without cramping the MOD yard. So - this ware will be ballasted once the paint is dry!

Anyway - I've enjoyed working on the layout again but I do find myself wondering about finishing, selling up and starting on another layout! I guess I just need a good running session!

The layouts looking really nice. The track on the workbench and here really show a difference and are all the better for the work you've done. Will you be building another layout to fill the place of Paxton Road as something to show off the stock or will you stick with the two you have on the go at the moment? On that building is that the final colour or will it get a coat of something. Depending on age the paint on the top would stain and get mossy as well as peeling and fading? Also you should check out my blog tomorrow night to see the progress I've made on my mainline 37. It's come on rather quickly. As I mentioned before we'll have to compare them sometime. The layout looks really good in the overview pictures and makes the track plan look nice and fluid. I'm surprised by how much track there is as photos before haven't ever given away the amount of track and neither does the open feel of the layout. It's a shame about the crane because it would be a nice stand a lone feature on the layout.regards,Lukasz

Cheers Lukasz.

I think when it's finished I'll build another OO layout. I was wondering about something modelling part of a larger yard - perhaps even Didcot. We'll see! It'll definitely not use Peco Code 75 throughout again - probably a mix of Code 75 concrete points and then Fast-track panels and rail from the P4 Track Company (www.exactoscale.co.uk).

The warehouse isn't finished - it needs a roof and a few final details. The finish is lightly weathered and the pipe even has bird droppings on - they don't come out great in the photos granted!

Yes, the layout is about 7' long - 14" wide. The plan originally was straight but I added the gentle curve to the loop to add some interest and I think it works really well. I really spent a lot of time trying to get the curves as transitioned as possible and this is really visible in the end to end shots to good effect. I think the crane will end up on something else one day... maybe a nuclear unloading diarama with Bachmanns FNA!
