Waiting for frames ....

Well, the frame jig spacers are being made so while I wait for them I've been playing with some other bits and bobs

I've built up the Comet GB5 and fitted it to the Sagami motor I bought from the Captain ages ago. After an extensive running in session it's running nice and smooth. Lovely dinky little gearbox and only 8mm wide, which is good for this project!

Only problem is the motor is not so narrow and will foul the frames. I need to add a DE38 drive extender, so more money for Geoff (artisan100) at Comet laugh.gif

Secondly I've started building up the cylinders and slides. Really pleased how this has gone aided by some nice fresh 145 and 188 deg solder from Eileen's. I can't really do any more to these until the frame is ready and I can start to work out how long the con-rod needs to be.

It's a bit frustrating with this build in that it's all chicken and egg, you can't finish building one part until you have started another. Oh well, it will all work out in the end (I hope!) wink.gif

Very interesting project to create a "what-might-have-been". Good luck.

With the cylinder/slide-bar assembly, are you going to fill the slot along the top bar and fabricate a motion bracket to brace the bars to the frames and support the lubricators? I find this improves the appearance of the Comet parts somewhat.

Funny you should mention that Dave, I'm going to order some w/m lubricators from Comet when I order the drive extender for the gearbox, so I guess the answer is yes, eventually.

Frames are sitting on my desk as I type this all jigged up with 8.5mm spacers in my Comet frame jigs ready for the soldering iron tonight (hopefully!)

I've just bought a cheap(ish) Loksound decoder too!
