Fitting Halling motor bogies.
I'm sure your all fed up with me espousing the virtues of Halling motor bogies, the one problem being how to actually fit them to the item you want to motorise. The vario units normally fit the Halling trams by small clips on the main body of the drive, the tram truck being made of flexible plastic.
So, thinking cap on and I came up with this....
It's a basic cradle made of 80 thou plasticard that can bolt up into the tram body, so easy removeable for access to the lower deck interior for glazing etc, it has a small section of tinplate let flush into the plasticard and, hey presto, the motor magnets hold the unit in quite happily, the one shown needs a couple of strips of plasticard attaching along the sides so the unit can't twist in the cradle.
I've also made these up with a couple of washers let into the plastic and these fit the ABS tram kit range quite happily. The other advantage is they are quick to remove which is great for me as I can only 'run' 8 trams at once and can have a number of bodies available to fit to a motor.
On the 35 and 41mm units I found that the threaded holes that takes the screws for the keeper plate was a blind hole at the top, so a quick hole drilled through allows you to replace the m2 screws with longer (16mm) m2 bolts which inturn can thread into a mount on your (tram) body.
Much work at the moment is geared towards glazing various trams, quite a bit done as individual flush glazed windows...................'cos I'm a glutton for punishment!
