The leg bone don't connect to the knee bone ....

Am I glad I fitted the return crank/eccentric rod before anything else.

It doesn't connect to the expansion link too well at all, in fact by 2mm

Looking again at the drawing (a lot!) leads me to the conclusion that the motion bracket/weighshaft needs to move back. The weight drawing of course shows a Britannia type bracket and I'm using a 9F one and there are differences.

One advantage of all this rework is that the valve rod will not need shortening and clearances underneath the motion bracket for the wheel will be greater.

Oh well, better get it all stripped down and move that mounting bracket .....

wait 'till I start making the seperate valve spindle to act off the combination lever...

I know I said I'd not bother, but hey, why not, it's just a bit of flattened 0.9mm brass wire with a hole in

So after this experience the Crosti 5 is looking less likely? wink.gif You know you enjoy a challenge! So is it the kitchen or the Mikado 1st?

Sorry to read of your problems, but it's better to sort this out now rather than when more parts have been added. For my own locos, I much prefer to draw things out - possibly larger than full model size - before I start cutting metal. It's a lot easier to change a drawing than change the model itself.

Good luck, anyway.

Dave.

Motion bracket/weighshaft now back 2mm, looking better but need to rivet the accentric rod to the expansion link for a proper test. Hopefully I can now move onto the front half of the motion - where's that 0.9mm wire ......
