An ICE set on its way from Frankfurt to Paris was involved in an accident near the town of Lambrecht in Rhineland-Palatinate which occurred around 10.15 am today. A refuse collection vehicle had come off a narrow road which ran parallel to the rail line and plunged onto the tracks. Fifteen persons were injured; the lorry was destroyed and the train heavily damaged.

Looking at that photostrip, I have a sense that there were some lucky elements in that crash. The train stayed upright, and the damage from the lorry didn't penetrate deep into the passengers saloon. That's not to say it wasn't truly frightening for those involved, merely that if one compares to the Great Heck or Ufton Nervet, it was thankfully less severe.

It does look as though in the steel verus aluminium battle the steel (from the truck presumably) won!

As mentioned above, I fair degree on luck involved there.
