Calshot MkII - Building a control panel + track laying shenanigans!

After a completely naff start to the day with trying to amending mistakes that I made last week (which I again made the same mistakes today!) I decided to leave the 009 point giving me grief and complete about 70% of the NG track. Just got the rest to lay tonight and then the four feeds to add before John comes tomorrow to kindly finish off all the wiring. smile.gif

This photo should explain the point predicament (and this is after supposedly realigning the the point and motor!):

The realignment of the point means some tight clearances between NG and SG but reduces the sharp curvature of the NG. (Win some, lose some!)

An overview of the progress at around 3pm:

This evening I've been building the control panel. Although I wasn't supposed to be making it out of acrylic (wood would have been quite adequate!) I did in the end decide to as it looks smart and I had already drawn the schematic diagram onto it anyway:

And a rear view:

Hopefully this is adequate for John when he comes to wire it up. The blank area on the right of the control panel will house the controllers once I make some form of holding device.

The control panel will be attached to the underneath lattice sub-frame which in turn holds all the wiring. A bit of card will then be placed under the lattice truss where the wiring is to protect from wondering fingers (or is that protect wondering fingers!).

Looks like I'd better get on with the track laying and feeds!

If you have any questions just ask. smile.gif

Well, it looks like you've made good progress again, Jam.

Could you mock up a photo of how the control panel attaches to the layout, please?

The new-style Model W controller uses the same box as the Combi I left with you last Saturday, so you could make up some mounting brackets for your panel (but don't fix them yet!)

Thanks John. At times I had to step away from that NG track as it was starting to irritate me.

I can mock up a photo (I'll send it via e-mail). Basically it just screws in to the lattice but it is at a funny angle so a photo would help!

For the mounting brackets I'd just attach some dowel pegs to the control panel and then the two holes (where I assume the screws in there are used to hold it all together) at the back mean the whole controller can literally just slot onto the round dowels. smile.gif

Thanks Matt!

(You really ought to finish your layout and get it on the exhibition circuit at some local shows wink.gif)

There should be another update later today where it will look like the layout has lost a fight with a tin of white paint wink.gif
