Flying Banana - Part IX

Hello :)

Things are still moving slowly on the railcar. Although I havent totally stopped on my modelling I still have a way to go until I get my modelling mojo totally back.

The chassis is now pretty much complete. I made the bracket for the motor today from a piece of brass and soldered it onto the chassis plus thanks to a tip-off from someone (thank you Brian) I found some screws that fitted the end of the motor so I could bolt it in place (they are M1.4 is anyone needs to know). I havent tried it yet by powering the motor but everything turns freely by hand.

The final picture of the chassis below shows how much lower the motor now sits in the chassis, there is about 1mm clearance from the top of the rails which should be enough for Highclere and yes, you cannot see it through the windows.

I thought I would also show a picture of what is the beginnings of the bits which will eventually hold the LEDs for the lower front lights, there are two shown for both ends which will be cut off once everything is soldered on. They have been milled from more PCB and are a push fit onto the brass 'C' section where the fibre optic will eventually go.

Very impressed that you have got a motor in that can't be seen Missy

Looking good - the long dark nights drawing in soon normally helps the mojo along I find...

More impressive stuff B) B)

I'm glad that you're modelling mojo is returning, although it can take some time. I went through a phase earlier in the year when I just wasn't into it at all and achieved nothing for months. It's a pain though, as you feel that you should be achieving something on one hand, but can't be bothered with it on the other!

Coming on nicely - although you say you're mojo isn't all there, it hasn't affected the quality of the work. :good_mini:

How are you going to 'detail' the sides of those brass plates - I know that just about each one of the railcars was different in some respect, but I I thought that the 'bit underneath' had some detailing (grills?)

Keep working at it - It will be interesting to see your one alongside a Farish version... :D

Hello Guys :)

Thank you for the comments, I really apppreciated the votes of confidence.

Hi Steve.

What Brass plates are you on about? Do you mean the bogie sideframes? If so Allen of Worsley works is etching some for me so hopefully I will have them soon.

Oops - I was having a senior moment ;). By brass plates I meant the very nice bracket that you had used to fit the motor... ...and for some unknown reason I had thought the body only came down as far as a line level with the buffers. Having looked back over previous entries (particularly Part VIII) shows that the side skirts (for better word) actually have the details already etched in...

...I should have just assumed that you would have had it covered :D

I admire your perseverance Missy. Inspiring work as always and thankyou for taking the time to give a detailed step-by-step of progress, most instructive :)

Hi Missy,

Looking good I must say.

Ah, the modelling mojo! :unsure_mini:

I've had the same problem for months. Then I started the Manors. It's all come together again. Loads of half finished stuff finished as well. In my case, something different kick started the mojo!!!!

Keep going Missy. It'll be worth it in the end. It's a good looking prototype and you will do it justice. :wink_mini:

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Missy,

That looks impressive. Are you planning on fitting some sort of interior to the railcar?

I can sympathise with the modelling 'mojo' - I haven't done any modelling for a month or so now. As Pete mentions, the dark winter nights will hopefully rekindle a bit of enthusiasm.

My 'modelling' at the moment is trying to write some articles. Easier than doing some actual modelling badly. I haven't done anything constructive since mid year. Some posts here and attending Farnham show have helped with the cba factor reducing.

I think now the body is sorted this will be flying along... Sorry - I'll get my coat.

btw nine should be IX.

Thanks again guys.

Hi Andy :)

Yes I am. I doubt it much if it will be much more than the tops of seats but I really would like to add some passengers to it. I have to fit another floor to it sometime soon as although I have lowered the height of the chassis it still will come to just below the bottom of the windows.

btw nine should be IX.

Hello Rich :)

Thanks for the tip-off. It was supposed to be Part 8 (wow, this is dragging on!) so the title has been duly changed.

I think you were right first time, Missy. Believe it or not, you really have got to Part 9 and VIIII was perfectly acceptable. The Romans would probably have used that instead of IX.

I hadn't realised just how big those windows were until I looked at the photo Steve had posted. Plus the passengers seem to be sitting quite high up - I can see why you wanted to put the motor as low down as possible. Still quite a few double amputations to perform though?!

PS. Belated congratulations on winning the John Barker trophy at the 2mm AGM for your rake of oil tank wagons.

Hadn't heard about that - Congratulations Julia - any photos of said rake? ;)
