With the approaching end to the current detailing phase on the 2-8-2 thoughts have again drifted to the chassis. I have found loads of photos of Britannia on t'internet and I really want to add sandboxes between the frames and filler tubes etc.

The initial thought was to do them as Britannia with three small box covers on the footplate each side (three instead of two as the 2-8-2 has more wheels innit). However I think I know why the 9Fs have only fillers on the RHS of the loco, because of the extra wheels set right up to the firebox the rearward filler on the LHS would foul the reverser shaft.

So, looks like 9F style fillers on the RHS only for the 2-8-2 - think I've still got the stanier 8F ones I cut off the boiler when I made the 2-8-0 all those years ago, failing that I've got a few scrap 9F bodyshells lying around

The intention is to fit the filler tubes and the actual representation of the sandboxes to the boiler lower, all made out of plastcard.
