Weyford - Gremlin Hunting
It is a month or so before Midhurst, so to check the electrics are okay and to practice operation sequences we hired the local village hall to set up Weyford in full.
Unfortunately, it will probably be shown as a 'Work in Progress' as various parts of the scenery are still far from finished...as can be seen. What today did allow us to do was run through a number of operating sequences as a practice for the show and fix one or two running problems; usually dodgy connections or short circuits.
For a layout like Weyford, a sequence is very important as otherwise you get into a tremendous mess with trying to keep your stock in order. It also makes operating the layout - which has a huge amount of operating scope - far more interesting.
In terms of stock, it was very much a case of 'anything goes' just to work the sequence. There are one or two items that may well not turn up at Weyford on the day of the exhibition!
One item that will no doubt show is this foreigner; a 28xx struggling up grade out of Weyford with an express van train. The vans have come up from the docks...arriving at Weyford station in two rakes via the branch line over which this train is about to cross.
This terrier has been press-ganged into operating the morning workers train for the docks...consisting of one half of an ex-GWR B set.
A bit of nostalgia from my point of view. 47406 Rail Riders departs from Weyford platform 1 with a rake of WR mark 1s.
I don't think this JR DD51 ever visited Dorset! The latest addition to the Dreyfus stud is this stunning Kato offering...runs like a dream!
