Update...

Howdy.

Sorry not to update regularly( trouble with this blog concept) but I haven't being doing a lot for the past week, just rebuilding a turnout, and tweaking a couple more.

In the process of lifing these, have had some second thoughts and all the track has been removed ( messy!) from the lack shelf, and a new simple little baseboard constructed out of some timber I bought in last year for the purpose.

The overriding reason was the difficulty of attaching cobalt motors ( which having played with, I am starting to like),it lacking depth and a secure fixing surface - neither unsurmountable, but perhaps a step too far for me just at this time. I am now reconsidering the track plan...!

My last couple of association wagons have been completed in the last fortnight, so I suppose I have not been quite as idle as it feels, though I have been putting off designing and building the chassis for the little 1F body shell, which is still sitting wrapped in polythene on my shelf.

Here are a couple of shots of the 1F - before final detailing and afterwards:

Maybe it might spark me into action re the chassis if I post some pix ...

Sometimes we all seem to go slow. Yet you still have made some progress.

Sorry it didn't work out between the Lack shelf and you Chris :(

However, that loco looks pretty smart...you are putting together a nice fleet of rolling stock...

Hi Chris, sounds to me like you have been pretty active actually :). But I know what you mean, all these little tweaking and rebuilding tasks etc don't seem like much progress, but I suppose they are all part of the job.

The baseboard looks like a nice clean build, and I never tire of watching your locos. I think the 1F will be your best yet?

Either your photography is as good as those people who do the pictures in kebab shops or you've got some skills Chris (I suspect the latter). It's easy to put yourself down, especially when the pictured models in MRJ and similar all looks so damn fine.

The best planning is often done in hindsight. Especially when learning. I'd start the chassis and see how you go. If it doesn't work and it's a pain to fix you'll probably already have realised how you should have done it. At that point start over and do better, like you have with the baseboard. It took me four goes on my first chassis, but I learned a huge amount in the process. I find the hardest bit is understanding how much space you have in the body and where it is relative to everything that needs to fit beneath.
