2011 - First new photos. Bluebell Branch Line

Hi!

First new update of the year to my website. A great line up at the Bluebell Branchline Gala, though the weather was pretty poor, leading to some less than satisfactory shots! I havn't yet seen anyone else's photos from the Sunday, presumably due to the weather.

Here's the link to the new 2011 Page.

As usual, comments are welcome!

Still having trouble with attaching samples to this blog, but I think that I have been successful this time!

I was there on the sunday as well, but haven't had a good look at my snaps yet. It was certainly atmospheric, with the steam swirling around on a damp day.

well thats very kind, sadly i was in the train and the stations not in a field haha, although i must do that one day, especially down there with the collection of rolling stock and locos.

You never know our paths may cross one day.

Oh, was that last weekend? Rats... missed it. Oh well... I guess thats the full schedule now in full steam (so to speak)... must get up there... oh, and if you go back there - pop in to the Art exhibition on Horsted Platform (wagon near the coach works) and say Hi to Matthew Cousins... also on here; as RMwebbers it's good to say hi.

I spent very little time in the field to be fair! Just a couple of run pasts. I was getting better results just taking close ups of the locos in the stations.

I had a look in the Art Exhibition. The gentleman in there manning the desk seemed to be the artist, so I guess Mathhew Cousins. He was explaining to a visitor how he does a lot of his work on computers now, I think in the context of changing small details within similar paintings. Sounded pretty interesting though complicated! When I have some disposable income (in 5 years or so!) I will buy up a few of the painting there, I like the style and the subject!

I'm ashamed to say I have never met another regularly contributing RMWeb member! (To my knowledge...)

Yes I have spoken to Matthew Cousins in the past back in August last year, do admire his work, as i used to be in to all that but gave up on it as i wasn't getting anywhere.

Haha if you say so looked a nice field, plenty seem to be using it throughout the day, I ve never personally met anyone from here or anywhere else forum based... i pretty much keep myself to myself as i have nothing major to contribute here as everyone knows alot more than i do.

Some great images on the site i did look through them. It wasnt a great day for photos all round due to the damp overcast conditions with steam hanging in the air and getting in the way of photos. But still good to see you got some decent ones :)

Thanks Matt :) Don't put yourself down! I gather you won a competition for your Baxter conversion? Your layout is certainly my favourite from the preservation era!

The field's very easy to get to from Horsted, just right out of the station. There is also another field on the other side of the line which I believe is also open to access for photographers.

Another good place is if you leave the station, turn left through the car park, over the bridge, away from the line bearing right slightly, cross a style, turn right, cross another style and head back to the line. There's a footpath which then heads North along side the road, but you can get some great shots of trains bursting out of Horsted under the bridge. On Sunday I managed to jump of a Southbound train at Horsted and hurry up to this position before the Northbound train got there, though only just. Didn't get the best results this time, but I have done in the past!

I tend to plan my day on the Bluebell the day before, looking at when there's a high intensity of smoke-box first trains running through Horsted. I managed to get three in a row on Sunday! On the trains, I tend to make sure I do a return to Kingscote and then another return to Horsted. I don't like to go to Kingscote twice in a day as the photo opportunities are limited and you are there for quite a long time with relatively little to see.

You may have seen one of my photos published on the Bluebell website!

My record number of visitors has trebled and my average daily visits have increased 100x in the days since publishing. (Bearing in mind that when I am inactive on RMWeb and don't post updates I am lucky to get 2 visitors a day!)
