Ok so after some Templotting at the weekend I tested out the size of the plan and am quite suprised how bit it is and thats without the 3way so I am going to have to go some giggling to get this into a more managable size as there needs to be space for the fiddleyards/cassettes! but I think it is a workable plan and like the flowing curves allowed by hand built track. And finally a side on view of a Tank loco and 2 (ahem) Southern coaches! :)

To my eyes it doesn't look that large. The main section of Avonwick is a single 6ft long 1ft wide 2ft high baseboard. This is just about movable by myself. I have thought of putting a couple of wheels at one end to help with this, but I can move it about slowly on my own. Between 2 of us it is very easy to move.

Tom - I think you have pitched that just right.

I would be tempted to make a detachable series of cassettes that you can offer up to this board as and when required as I think any shrinking now will lose the nice flowing geometry of the plan.

You can't beat just laying out a few templates and placing a bit of stock on it - Lovely stuff :D

Hi Chris, I am going to have a go at foam-board and ply construction in the hope I might be able to lift it by myself :) but I like the wheels idea.

Pete, Yes I really like the flows :) and seeing it for real always helps, I just have a feeling that it is a bit cramped at the yard end, but don't want to lose the space at the station end. I could move the level crossing to the other side of the station. More playing at the weeked...
