I'm not sure whether anyone else finds this research stuff interesting, but I have received some replies from various helpful sources about Glenfield.
The kindnesses which many modelling people show still astounds me.
Take Roger, for example, who I am in an email discussion with. He used to live near Glenfield in the 1960s. He called into the Leicester records office for me to consult maps of various ages to try to answer some of my questions! And then took the time to correspond his findings.
I also received some photos today from one Barry Hoper at the Transport Treasury - they arrived a couple days after putting in my order - Photobox, watch out!
The existence of so many photos by RC Riley ( taken in the sixties)was unknown to me until recently.
I hope I am allowed to attach a couple as as far as I am aware there is no exisitng copyright restriction involved, as I believe RC Riley willingly gave away his negatives.
The first shows the station loop in use as a goods yard - question one answered! Note the coal on the track - ah ha!
The second shows shunting going on using the station platform, and yes, that platform building was the goods shed!
The curved siding which I have replicated on my layout is still a mystery to be solved, though clearly there was a building at the end of it, and the line itself was excavated into some rising ground. I am still favouring it is a either livestock or stone based!
I am at the stage of fitting point motors now, as I believe my track plan, though truncated to fit the board, is mostly accurate in other respects.
Regards,
Chris
