A slightly different posting for a change... back along the lines of my earlier prototype blog entries that I went and stuck in my Workbench blog entries (sorry)... this time of some variable quality pictures I was able to grab with my 9 year old Cannon Powershot G2 whilst on Holiday in Paris with the family. My previous (business) trips have always involved use of the metro only, so this time, being further out necessitated use of the RER... which brought us into contact with more rail traffic... including that emanating from Gare d’Austerlitz.
Most of the images are of the RER services (RER C) that we used every day... along with a few of the express services that flew through Vitre-Sur-Seine whilst we awaited our RER service, including one of my youngest waiting to film some of the local services.
First shot from the Eurostar window as we approached Gare Du Nord – these look smart, I’ve no idea what these are (apologies for the quality - grabbed on the phone).
A selection of shots from Vitre-Sur-Seine... again, the quality isn't brilliant, the light always being in the wrong place didn't help!
and a tram - Line 3.
What on earth must the ride be like in these carriages!?!
And finally... pushing the limits of handheld exposures awaiting the train home – these were about 0.3 seconds at f8.0 (the narrowest the camera goes to)... but the results seem ok.
So, that’s it. Some shots were better than others – and I found the limits of the old camera; next time I’ll take the D-SLR and try harder. It was a nice holiday.
Hope that some can explain some of the above... it was nice to see loco hauled passenger services running through... and the woosh from the coaches at speed was wonderful!
Thanks for reading
Jon
