Paving the way

About a year ago after retiring from playing rugby I found myself looking for a new hobby. After some deliberation and fond memories of the railways as a child I decided on a model railway.

Having a model railway does however present some problems, the first being the vast amount of space required to be able to house any significant sized layout. I therefore had to find a suitable location in my house to situate my railway without causing any turbulance to my domestic bliss.

After dicussing with my better half about using different rooms in the house I found that I would not be able to use anywhere in the house without significant casualties and therefore had thought my new choice for a hobby would never get started.

A few months later I had to go in the loft to bring down the suitcases thrown up there the year before. Armed with a torch I had a good look around the loft space and found there to be bags of space... A location had been found, but in its current state my loft space would be both an extremely dusty and uncomfortable space. Lots of work would need to be done to get the loft into a clean usable space for a layout but the budget for completing the conversion would be non-existant.

In August of this year I began work on converting the loft myself and began by boarding the floor in the evenings a couple of days a week. So far I have got over half way through boarding the floor and have run in the electrical cables for both Lighting and Sockets.

This weekend I am installing a new loft hatch and ladder which will be a challenge in itself.
