Retail Therapy....!

Best treatment for stress....

Once upon a long time ago I owned an 'Emco Unimate' - one of the 'real ones'. Unfortunately, with the advent of children it had to go (feeding the family was deemed more important)!

With retirement in the offing and a little spare money around - meet the new toy -

Its a tad bigger than the old Unimate - but does have one thing in common -

I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT!

Back to the instruction book/DVDs (didn't have those in the '70s!)

I've had to school myself to get on with the house tho' & treat the railway room as an 'escape' for a couple of hours - in the morning, the afternoon, the evening.....

Yumm!! Wish I had a shed for things like that! My dad has a double garage, no room left for cars, even the bike has had to move to the shed down the garden. All due to things like that...

Lovely job ! I've got one in green from Warco.........Chester tools sell them in their own colours..all identical.

You WILL need the following :

tailstock chuck

tailstock centre ( for setting tool height )

4 jaw chuck

Mine does, however, live with it's 3 jaw semi-permanently fitted. Assuming that you also have a bench grinder, buy some short lengths of tool steel. I shim my cutting tools to height with plastic card........works well for me.

The best manual is " The Amateurs Lathe" by L H Sparey, publishe dby Argus Bools.

You'll know when things aren't quite right when broken tools ping past your ears !

Incidentally, don't bother with a vertical slide with a view to milling..it doesn't work !

If i can help further, don't hesitate to e-mail me or phone.

Enjoy
