Table 1. Firsts and Lasts

This table covers "firsts and lasts", i.e. the first time that something happened or the last time something happened. This could be introduction or withdrawal of stock, opening and closing of stations, depots or routes, and possibly others.

  • The table is sorted by Date, as this seemed most appropriate. Dates are given in the form YYYY.MM.DD.
  • To aid sorting, I've used '00' in the date fields where the information wasn't given, i.e. a date of 1981 would be 1981.00.00, July 1981 would be 1981.07.00 and 21st July 1981 would be 1981.07.21.
  • As another aid to sorting, I have used the TOPS Class where at all possible, even for those locomotives that never made it to TOPS and/or were frequently known by another name. Therefore Class 35 Hymeks, Class 55 Deltics etc. will be seen.
  • The numerical prefix to the Issue date is another aid for sorting on my behalf. From memory, the first edition of the magazine to appear with a number as well as a date was Issue 50.
  • Presumably all the information that was published was believed to be true and accurate at the time. Occasionally this proved not to be the case. Where I am aware, I have noted where information was later disproved or subsequently amended to reflect reality.
  • Any queries can always be posted in the comments section. I can't always guarantee to know the answer - or have the time to answer - but with the references given hopefully anybody who happens to have this information available could help out with clarifications. Please note that I have no means of scanning pages, so requests for copies of any articles or individual pages will go unfulfilled. Sorry.
  • There may be some duplication of entries with other tables as some information conceivably falls across multiple categories. I have tried to minimise this.
  • I don't mind having typos etc. pointed out :-)

It would appear that I can't post HTML code here - it only appears as HTML code, not the display. Therefore, I've attached the table as a file.
