Rewheeling a GF Class 24 Entry posted by Chrislock February 21, 2012 473 views Share
 Compared to the Class 25, everything about this retooled loco makes it easy to work on: Now just need to dirty it up some more... Chris 2

Chrislock 343 Posted February 22, 2012 Yep. Never really occurred to have Gordon S work on the wheels. They are not quite as smooth as the original N wheels though. Ok, but a bit noisier even after some oil. Wonder if its the brass gears meshing with plastic? Did you use drop-ins and did you find the same? Link to comment
RMweb Gold bcnPete 4,944 Posted February 22, 2012 RMweb Gold I have a set of drop ins which I dropped in the night before Kyle was exhibited 2 years ago...it ran like a dog so I whipped them out but I did read an article in the 2mmFS mag shortly after saying the wheels need a good clean and scrub so I will try this tomorrow night as I hope to work on my 24 and 26... richbrummitt 2,796 Posted February 23, 2012 Wonder if its the brass gears meshing with plastic? Plastic gears are usually quieter. Introducing brass gears could increase the noise. I had the wheels in my railcar (poole) turned down and that is noisy, but it always has been. Link to comment
Chrislock 343 Posted February 23, 2012 Plastic gears are usually quieter. Introducing brass gears could increase the noise. I think this must be the case, since the wheel swap over went without issue. The 24 was particularly quiet and smooth out of the box on the N test track. It is still well within the acceptable, I was just surprised that there should be a difference. Link to comment
