Two Steps Forward After Ten Steps Backward

Dave at Honley Tank

Hello again everybody!

Minor illness and horticulture has kept any progress with the J10 to a minimum so it's been a while now since my last post.

The new running plate has been marked and fretted out and, looking for a less frail assembly, I increased the nickel-silver thickness to 0.015". I also dispensed with the 1/16" equal brass angle for the running plate valances with added fiddly bits (!) and fretted out new valances in 0.025" nickel-silver with the "fiddly bits" included. I say, "fretted out" but in fact I made a single 2:1 master in plastikard and used Manchester MRS's profile milling machine to do the fretting.

So I have progressed a little forward after those many steps backward, and the running plate is now complete with valances, buffer beam and cab. This time, with Bill B's help, I'm fairly sure that the cab is now mounted in the correct position and next visit to the 'Tank' I'll be fitting all the splashers, including those two little rear ones which showed up the errors. Some pics next week perhaps

Dave,

It's good to hear of positive progress following your set-backs with this loco.

Perhaps we can see it in the flesh, so to speak, at S4 North?

Hi Dave,

Nice to hear from you.

Both Margaret & I will be stewarding at Scalefour North, (Margaret with her pinny on as normal!) but I'm not sure that the J10 is any where near leaving the assembly bay yet.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Dave
