Canals for model railways

Starting back to modelling again now that I have finally retired, I have always enjoyed canals etc having lived in England for 9 years before moving to Ireland and want to create one in 00 format for my layout but, for the life of me I can't find any info on modelling any, Plenty of info on canals of all types but not on how to build models.

New to this blog thingy !! so hope soemone will come back with some advice/info

There are a few canals over here in Ireland where I now live but they are not as many as there are in England and they are not used anything like as much or modelled as far as I can see!

Any help would be appreciated

if you can find them, look back through the last few editions of model rail, I'm pretty sure they did a bit recently on modelling them. if not, I know there is something in my library at home, see what I can find for you.

of course there's always the rtr scaledale stuff from Hornby ;)

G'day reemgee,

Could I suggest you look at Scalescenes ... they have a canal lock and narrowboats, you might find useful (you'll need a decent printer but I suggest you try some of the "free stuff" first ...

Hello reemgee and welcome to RMweb. Could I suggest asking your question in one of the forum sections? For example, Scenery, Structures & Transport. The blog area is not really the right place for questions and you can expect fewer people to see them here. There are many who just stick to the forums, perhaps in fear of falling off the edge of the flat earth if they venture into the blog area.

Welcome to RMweb. As a fellow modeler living in Ireland it can be frustrating not having access to things you want to model - there's nothing like seeing the real thing when it comes to making a model of it. In the meantime, Scalescenes has a great kit of boats and lock gates etc - really worth a try. There'll be plenty of helpful advice here at RMweb so you've done the right thing by joining - you'll soon find your way around the site in time. Happy modelling.

Regards,

Mike
