Progress Report
Been a while since I posted an update on Fourgig East, so here goes:
Cork trackbed has been glued to baseboard #3 and since the photo below I have cut the cork away to clear the tiebars on the switches and drilled holes for the track droppers.
I have also been busy with the woodwork. Both end protectors have been made, dowelled and toggle catches fitted so the basic 16" x 2' x 4' box is made. I have set the boards further apart so that the 10" high backscenes do not overlap the edges of the facing boards - should help to stop the edges getting scuffed up and there will be no need for a cutout at each end to accommodate the toggle catches. Still not tested to see if it fits in the Scooby though .....
I've also set large flight case handles into the end protectors so that the whole thing will be easier to carry.
All track that has been so far made has had it's droppers soldered to the underside of the rails so the next step is to cyano the track to the cork and fit some point motors - ooh exciting!
On the electrics side I have been testing Mike Bolton at MERG's latest block cutout/reverser module DC06. This is looking promising and works better with NCE equipment than the DC01's that I fitted to Summat Colliery. I am currently replacing the DC01's on Summat with DC06's and have etched two more PCBs for a similar setup for Fourgig. The DCC feed from the controller will go direct to the point motors and the track bus fed from one DC06 on each board. If I run a train into a point that is set incorrectly the short will not prevent the point being set correctly and the train can automatically carry on.
That's all for now
