Roxey Summers Iron Ore Hopper part 13 Bogies 2.

The bogies are almost finished now.

The owner supplied some tension lock couplings to be fitted. I used a strip of 5mm x .5mm brass strip as the mounting bracket, bent to shape and soldered to the underside of the etched bogie frame;

I drilled 1.3mm dia. holes in the couplings so they could be attached using 12BA nuts and bolts. The mounting bars have 2 holes drilled in them, the outer hole position is based on the coupling position on my Bachmann JNA (untouched - bought because they're used locally and because its a nice model) and the inner hole sets the coupling inwards by 2mm. Howver, moving the coupling inwards means trimming the tail of the coupling. I soldered short length of 1mm dia. wire into the bar, this can be seen sitting between the forked 'tails' of the coupling and is there to keep it in line.

Bogie sideframes are attached with epoxy.

I originally planned to use Parkside Dundas NEM coupling adaptors on the wagon but that would have set the coupling too far out.

Next job is to clean them up ready for a coat of primer.

Nice update Paul, the bogies look good and proper and I love the idea of been able to move the nem coupling if need be.

You've given me an idea now for adding couplings to my wagons like this with brass rather than brass bars sticking out and a downward L on the other side so they couple up superb thankyou for that:)

Cheers Rich.
