2fs TTA walkways

I have a habit of playing around with ideas I have in Autocad. The result of recent tinkering is my third etch with various parts needed for several projects. Among those projects is to upgrade a rake of Graham Farish TTA's to run on my next 2fs layout.

The plan is to replace the moulded plastic walkways and ladders with my own etches, fit my own custom W irons with cast suspension units and axle boxes. Tonight I have quickly folded up and positioned a walkway and ladders on a wagon to see how it looks compared to the Farish mouldings. Below are a few quick shots of how the wagon looks with my etches roughly in place.

I need to change the artwork slightly to make them fit a bit better but I'm happy so far. My plan is to eventually make these parts into a kit for anyone who wants them.

I will try and document any progress on this project here alongside my website for anyone interested. Another project currently on the drawing board is to convert a rake of Farish PCA wagons into the Alcan Alumina wagons. More on that later.

Oooh they look good so far!

IM sure I have seen someone selling something similar though, isnt it Taylors Models?

The walkways totally transform the wagon already without the chassis work you are planning on doing..

Hi Missy,

I had a quick look on the TPM site before and their etch looks as though it is only half etched. I've designed this one to be 'see through'. My pics don't show it off to full effect.

Cheers

Hi Martin, looking good! Have you considered doing an etched walkway/ladders for the Graham Farish TEA? I'm planning on converting some to EWS tankers and such an etch would provide a fantastic finish to the job. One to add to your catalogue? (hope so :-) ) Cheers.

Hi Robin,

That is something I could possibly do in the future. My list just keeps growing. Hopefully I'll get to discuss it with you at Perth next month.

:-) Great stuff Martin... hey I could help your list grow further still. Looking forward to meeting up at Perth show and seeing progress on your Sleepers and TTAs... and perhaps hearing a bit more about future projects.

They certainly look good! Would be interested if you were to sell these similar to what Stephen Harris does. Look forward to seeing more.

This etch look fantastic. The Farish one is a little heavy, and well I was wondering if 2mm brass signal ladders could be used to replace the ladder. If there etches where available I'd be interested.

Indeed regarding the suspension, post 1986ish many TTAs received Bruninghaus springs, which are four leaf. There is a thread on Will Vale's blog concerning modelling these on Bachmann Limpets, PNAs and Pugsley has done this on a TTA. Nigel Burkin's BRM book regarding Modern RTR Wagons features this too.
