Hi,
Just a quick post to give an update on progress with the Layout.
The scenic modules have had a few outings to our club meets, where other members of the build team have been able to get a feel for how they operate and to check that our collective stock works OK on the layout. We have suspended work on them at the moment while we finalise our plans for the scenics. We have a general idea of what we want for the modules, but we are just agreeing between ourselves which methods will work best. As an example one of the items we are looking at is various methods and materials that could be used to ballast and weather the track.
The big news is that our fiddle yard modules are now ready, so in the next few weeks we should see some real progress with these. The yard will be made up of 5 4' by 18" modules and they will be fixed together in a similar fashion to the scenic boards, using M8 bolts and captive nuts to secure the boards together and pattern makers dowels to provide accurate alignment. The yard will have 14 lanes across the 17" deck. Here are a few pics and a track plan.
The full 5 modules.
The pattern makers dowels being inserted.
Fiddle Yard Track Plan.
Also just a quick thank you to one of our fellow Yorkshire Area Group members of the N Gauge Society (shown here putting the finishing touches to one of the modules), who has kindly donated his time to build both the Scenic and Fiddle Yard modules for us.
Cheers.
