The design of my English layout

Space is limited in my hobby room, so I had to make a track plan that would fit in just only 2,8 m by 0,6 m. In my search on the internet to get some inspiration, I found a nice looking layout called Pen-Y-Bont made by Frank Collins (Dukedog here on RMweb). This was what I was looking for: it fits along the wall in my railway room, it has a nice atmosphere, and yet enough opportunities. So, I took the track plan en started drawing my own version.

For those of you who know Pen-Y-Bont, you see that I have mirrored the track plan. I did this because on the right hand side I have the possibility to move the fiddleyard into the kitchen when the layout will be operated after a possible future extension. I also lengthened the track plan because the layout will be built on baseboards which have Ikea Ivar book shelves as a base. In the past I had good experiences with these shelves when building my US grain layout, so using these again seems to be a good idea.

At this moment I’m working on the details regarding point control etc. When these details have been worked out, construction can begin.

Greetings,

Jan Derk

Hi Jan,

I am happy that you found inspiration from my layout Pen Y Bont.

I agree that some times simple is best, and believe me I have some fun operating the layout and working out shunting movements.

Good luck with yours and I will watch out for updates here.

Cheers!

Frank

The imagea are made with SolidWorks for 3D desing. I use this sowfware at work (engineering machinery) so I'm used to handle it.
