bubble-icious...

Good afternoon,

me again...back to back posting :O

This posting is twofold really...

Firstly, my Dapol BR Blue bubble finally arrived today from Hattons...well 2 of them actually, due to a mix up between Hattons and myself. It will go straight back as I prefer to keep the money for the Blue Grey version...when you are ready DD.. :good:

I have been awaiting this model for some years now so I guess my part built worsley works 121 etch...will remain par built. It really is the one bit of rolling stock the line needs so forgive me for plonking it straight OOTB on the layout to see if it feels at home.

Secondly, I have been meaning to set up the layout along its length in our external terrace as we now have a bit of extra space and I wanted to 'slot in' my 2011 diorama effort to see how it looked, afterall my entry was a testbed for scenery, lighting, fascias and of course building the viaduct.

You have to try and imagine stretching the diorama the 11" along the 3.3 metres length as that's really the feel I would like the layout to have. A hell of a lot of trees, with a small branch/freight line running between them.

I am hoping to restart this in January 2012 and give the layout a good crack next year and see what I can get done before 21 December 2012...or whatever that doomsday date is.

Until then, a few pics and I am heading back to the far North of Scotland... :D

And with 2011 diorama 'slotted in'...

And a little closer...I know that the branch line doesn't align!...

And from the other side...just to give a feel for what I am aiming at...

EDIT...Forgot to add this one yesterday...this is a front end on view showing 'implied proscenium arch' using the lighting beam...

The beam is just enough to let the viaduct breathe a little...

really like this- 'bloody great viaducts' are a sure fire way of making things unmodellable in many peoples books!

love the shadow cast over the ground below, cracking!

you have obviously run out of shelf space. The natural light does wonders for the viaduct. The ensemble makes a great layout. Just the small matter of bringing it up to the same level. One small matter will you realign the rest to match the viaduct section or are you going to have to change the viaduct!!

Thank you all for your kind comments...was sort of inspired to carry on yesterday after receiving the Bubble car and seeing the layout in totality...but first things first...must try and finish KoL...

Don, hi - In a word...no!

I kept the line fairly straight as if I had put a slight twist in the line to get beneath the viaduct, then Moorswater Dries would not have fitted. When I 'replant' the viaduct on this layout, the line will pass beneath closer to the inside face and I will position the Brunel pier in the same relationship as is on the diorama...it will be a small compromise, but hopefully it will still capture the scene. The twisty turny part of the branch will have to be for the other end when I get around to extending it to Looe...just for Mickey of course ;)

Looks very impressive. Really show of the less is more approach of a railway in the landscape.

TBH I wasn't quite sure how the two piers of a viaduct would fit in with the rest of the layout but I shouldn't have worried, it fits together perfectly. It has the scale height without looking out of proportion if you know what I mean

So if its 3.3m at the moment whats the longest room in the house?

PS Any kettles been spotted lurking under the viaduct?

Many thanks Tom.

The layout was never intended to have a backscene, but the question was posed once on here and I am glad it now has one. It's good to have a plan...but its always good to keep questioning what you are doing and feel comfortable to make changes along the way.

The open dining/living room could accommodate the layout in this configuration...but it would meet with a degree of resistance :O

Now we swopped apartment we have an external terrace (as opposed to a skinny 'smoking' balcony) so one day I hope to set up the layout with legs and lighting beam for a little fun in the sun...

PS...my 'kettle' phase has passed again...back on BR Blue again...:)

Very nice, Pete. I gave you top marks in the diorama comp; well deserved in my opinion.

Should look a corker when the viaduct is incorporated into the layout proper. And don't forget to curve those backscene corners! ;)

...I was just thinking myself that I really need to revisit and sort those 90 degree sky moments... :)

Fantastic progress Pete, it has a great feel about it now.

Thanks Bryn...Progress of sorts!

I guess the width of the diorama represents 1/10 of the visual length of the layout so if I multiply that surface area 10 times...it brings me to the 2mm 60th Expo in 2020... :O

Good stuff Pete.

Even better if the track joined up though :D

I do like the length of Combe - it is longer than I imagined and the better for it. That's a good run in 2mm.

Although I have a reasonably sized house, I am also juggling what and where I can set up permanently - the ladies just don't seem to appreciate them running around lounge walls, do they?

Keep at it!

Thanks Chris...yep, that alignment will be tweaked with my big hammer...

Its not often I get to set the layout out in all its length...and it had no influence in the decision for us to change apartment for the one next door with a terrace... ;)
