Ropley - Oil store update

Hi all!

Just a brief update on the oil store building as modelling time has been in short supply the last couple of weeks! This has really been a trial of a few different methods, some of which will be used for all the buildings and some which won't!

The version photographed below has doors and wooden panel made using photos from the full size version however I’m not overly happy with the flat appearance for these so for the final version I'll be reverting to plastic. I also tried the fine mesh I had in the random bits tray for to recreate the mesh covering the ‘windows’ but really this is a little too dense and it blocks out the view of the internal structure, so the hunt is currently on for an alternative.

The roof structure has been modelled which will allow it to be visible from underneath the slight a slight overhang at the front as per the real building however I’m still pondering the best method of producing the corrugated sheeting for the roof!

Hopefully I can make some more progress over the next week thanks to favourable days off, so expect another update soon!

Cheers all,

Tom.

I would print onto clear sheet for the mesh, in 2mm I think you will struggle to find something that is scaled without blocking the internal view. The above looks great, when placed in the layout I doubt the relief would be an issue. I would simply print the door again then cut out the raised section and stick it onto the bit above, that way you retain the weathering and don't have to paint anything.
