Just an update to announce that Glasburgh has been closed! All the stock sold. Layout dismantled. A steady increase to the grandchild stock dictates a rethink of the spare room. So, amidst the painting of walls, moving of furniture a new venture is planned. one of the things I miss about small laoyouts is the ability to see trains running. To this end...a shift to 2mm scale for 4mm is required.

Well, it was flaming freezing in the wind here today. The boat was abandoned and a spot of modelling commenced. I have added the new Hornby Modern Shed to the depot and moved my Bachmann one. A third Deltic (to be 55022) has been added to the stock.

Well, I guess that was summer! Not the best for sailing up here. However the shortening days lead back to some modelling time. The spare room has been cleared of sailing junk and a return to modelling has begun.
This winter is going to be a time of detailing the depot...(not spending cash on sound chips!!)..and getting a new baseboard for the static part of the layout where Glasburgh station is above the tunnel. I have decided to do this and create some more room for stock and perhaps a carriag

So far so good. Much of the big stuff done but as you will see alot of detailing to go. I am quite pleased with things so far. The only remaining shed from effort 1 will need a good bit of detailing and a repaint to stand next to the new ones!

Well, the 'rip it up' has expanded a bit. I have got ripped in to a fairly major re development. It started off as re doing the concrete hard standing but has ended up much more. I flogged my Class 50 DCC sound loco to pay for some of it. I have bought the Bachmann Diesel maintenance depot to replace one of my Peco engine sheds. It is a superbly detailed resin casting. Enjoyed the Perth model rail show on Sunday with my dad. Trouble is ....you always see something done better than yours.
So, The engine maintenance sheds have been removed (carefully!) and the hard standing is to be re done! Mine just doesn't look like concrete!. Bought some paint to paint the new stuff concrete colour before weathering. have also splashed out on some plasti card and plastic to make up internal platforms for one of the sheds. Just for Jon a picture of a pristine 55 002 with working lights! As you can see the nose end still has handrails etc to be fitted but the lights do look pretty good!
My favourite 'real' Deltic has now returned from Jason's workshop complete with new tail and headcode lights. In particular the headcode looks superb and you can't tell the difference between it and the factory fitted 55 001 donor. Now that it is complete with sound, cab and marker lights I am extremely pleased with the result! Only thing still to be done is etched nameplates.

Not much been happening on the modelling front as it is the time of year to get our yacht ready to go back in water. A lot of hull preparation and not model sized!
However, having the chance to buy a Bachmann 55 002 in 1981 two tone green guise was to much to resist. I had one previously and had added an Express Models light kit but was not satisfied with my efforts so sold it. Work is progressing on the new home for A4 60009 Union of south Africa. As I need to free up space for the new shed I have removed one of the main fleet's depots and relocated it. This has given an opportunity to remove all the locos from Glasburgh to put down some 'concrete' for both the shed and relocated depot sheds. First layer of concrete laid and drying.

Have finally started to build my shed for A4 Union of South Africa. Thanks to help from other poster (Cheers Richard -Ben Alder) I was given drawings for the original shed. While not building a shed exactly the same for my layout I wanted it to be based on the prototype. 60009 was kept in a shed at Markinch station during my period. My shed will have two roads in it as opposed to one but most other features will (I hope) be the same. Slate roof and wooden sides with small outbuilding. Loa

Tonight I tackled fitting my A4 Falcon(OOOOPS! Meant Sparrow Hawk- I sold Falcon from pack and bought Sparrow Hawk to get Double chimney) with its new identity. She is now resplendent in her new etched Union of South Africa name plates with the springbok plate on one side only as per prototype. After rubbing out the numbers on the cabside with T cut I have applied the correct 60009 cabside numbers. I have also fitted an etched 60009 number over the existing smokebox number. To me s

A4 60009 Union of South Africa has arrived back to Glasburgh. Although naming still has to take place and changing number it is looking good. Working lights at front and rear and a Seuthe Smoke Generator fitted.
Takes me back to when we used to see it at Leuchars.
Next task is to make the shed for her to sit in. This will based around her real one that she used at Markinch. It will involve re siting one of my loco sheds but I think it will be worth it.

Now that A4 60009 is off to Jason's workshop to be 're boilered' and a light safety inspection, thought to powering her when she comes back has gone on a pace. Two coal wagons have been purchased ( thanks for posters who helped) and filled with coal. (the real stuff of course....) They have now arrived at Glasburgh and will be ready to fill her up when she returns in a few weeks.
Actually, it is the first time I have bought and filled a wagon for....well.....longer than I care to
I have started to make some progress towards getting the layout buses in the guise I remember from 1980.
Still work to be done on the TRC Blue buses (temporary Destinations and signs ) but they are beginning to look like their prototypes!
Well, Santa was kind after all and the parcels made it through our frozen lands! First a new refuelling point (Knitwing kit) which I added lights to at construction stage. Still to weather the roof but looks good. Diesels can now fill up and off load! They wouldn't get far on two off loading points!
My Class 31 visited Jason to have lights fitted to cabs and an all Blue Cravens unit now looks good with its Perth destination blind. (not a bad effort even I do say so myself!) Will have to do some
The overbridge that is over the platforms on the raised section of Glasburgh was primarily to hide the fact that the sidings are very short and can only display DMUs or part of a train. These are static with power to the rails so that coach lighting can be fitted and DCC sound loco can sit idling.

My short stay in hospital passed successfully and my arm is on the mend finally! I have some time to kill at home. I had been doing some work with carriage lighting before surgoens stopped play. I have put lighting inside a mark 1 full brake and am quite pleased with the results. I have also added carriage lighting to my two Bachmann Pullman coaches. The table lights were just not quite enough and I think they now look much better.

Change of locos on Station siding. Class 47 712 has been replaced with 27 105 on the siding adjacent to platform 7 on the static part of the layout. And...fine she looks too I reckon!

Returned from holiday in Greece and fired up all the sound locos today. Fair' takes you back so it does!!

Between painkillers and using the workbench to hold the chassis block I managed to cut it down to size with an angle grinder. It's amazing what you can mange with a bit of non modelling help even with one functioning arm! I have to admit I have never been brave enough to take apart completely a working Bachmann loco before. Never mind taking an angle grinder to it.!
