At last an Engine - Stanier Stephenson Black 5 44767

In the workshop today is an EM Gauge scratchbuilt (by Mike Edge) model of the last LMS built Black 5 44767 - fitted with Stephenson link motion. An absolute peach of a locomotive!   It has been weathered to represent an engine cleaned at a shed.   three quarters front with the sun catching the dirt on the top of the boiler     top down     loco close up     tender close up     I want one!

ex LMS Express Passenger Engines

Three ex LMS Express Passenger Engines. All built and painted by Graham Varley. They are EM, have Ultrascale wheels and are from kits.   The two Duchesses are from DJH kits and have Digitrains sound on Zimo 648 chips fitted by me before weathering them   First up City of Lichfield     and Duchess of Sutherland     and a non sound fitted one - Rebuilt Scot Gordon Highlander from a Comet kit     Baz

An ex Crosti 9f and and A2 ..what a pair!

Stanier and Fairburn Tanks plus an N5 for Herculaneum Dock

So a bit of weathering done today on locomotives for Herculaneum Dock - it is appearing at Southampton Show at the end of this month in much changed format. An eclectic mix!

The joys of having a number of clients with a mix of scales and gauges - it means I get to do all sorts of weathering and dcc fitting. So today has seen six On3 wagons - these make Bachmann On30 wagons look small! and some UK 4mm RTR steam Hornby Railroad Crosti 9F Hornby O1 and a Robinson O4 The latter two are brand new and were literally awash with oil. - A quick wash over with a bit of CiF before I started to get rid of the oil - and its still leaching through the plastic locom

Never say Conflat again plus a dubdee

An update. I know I said no more conflats but... another 6 of these have been completed plus a couple of lowfits - these still need the ropes adding. So thats about 40 Conflats done.... time for something else so.. a couple of Hornby 20T hoppers a cross channel tank wagon and... a Bachmann WD enjoy!

A bit of this and that and a breakdown train

Lots of visitors to the demo stand at Warley where quite a few RMwebbers (and others) had a go. Had a varied assortment of commissions to do over the last week or two (and 6 more Conflat As still to weather). So,now that the Conflat As have been completed time to move onto some mineral wagons..   first up an ex PO wagon     a repainted Slaters wagon.   Two Dapol 21T Hoppers - one had been preweathered in mud so...     a bit more rust and dust to make it work.   and some Hornby 21T hoppers       this is one of mine with added Judith Edge etched parts for handles, end handrails etc     and two Bachmann 16T minerals

Black 5s

A couple of DJH Black 5s - I believe these have new EM chassis from Steve Haley and a bit of paintwork from him too. First up 44868   and next 44943 and a shot from above Modified method of weathering valve gear employed - supplied to me with motion work painted a brown colour - ink added, powder added then "pulled" with a stiff brush. Conflat As

Been busy with a lot of things but finally got to the stage when I could weather some more wagons A small (33) number of Conflats and... Some finished examples - cruel close ups.. Conflat A with insulated AF container and a Container A with insulated FM container all now complete! ( been a busy couple of days!)

Some Passenger Engines

Just for a change from the LM Pacific's I have just sound chipped (Digitrains sound on a Zimo 648) and weathered two DJH kit built A3s (I believe they were built, painted and lined by Graham Varley)   First up Sir Visto     Chip is in the firebox, speakers in between the frames under the smokebox facing down.   and its brother     Spearmint.   These are fairly clean - with dirt of the valve gear and top of the boiler     and a Brush Type 4 - Heljan regauged to EM by Mike Edg

A Kitson "Long Boilered" 0-6-0T Industrial

Just been doing a bit of weathering on an Industrial. Its a Kitson "long boilered" 0-6-0T and has been scratchbuilt, painted and lined by Mike Edge in 4mm OO   It arrived in this state     I was supplied with some colour photos of NCB Numbers 41 and 42, and, after a bit of ink and powder application we get   and     I want one!

Some weathered wagons and vans

Been re-gauging/fitting 3 link couplings and weathering a number of wagons this week. First up examples of a group of unfitted vans, Not sure about the "W" number on the van on the left as its a SOuthern Railways/BR design. Next up some fitted vans looks like both are Parkside kits. A Gunpowder van (Hornby Dublo body on a Parkside chassis) and chalk marked Parkside van An oil tanker (Peco Wonderful wagon) A Bachmann Bogie Bolster C and finally a Hornby Bogie Bolster A

Weathering and sound... at last!

Been busy with a bit of sound fitting and weathering over the last couple of days.   A couple of examples   First up a Caprotti 5 from a Comet Kit built and painted by Steve Haley Graham Varley. I fitted a Loksound V4 (sound from Digitrains) chip in the tender and 2 sugar cubes in the front frames (isn't EM gauge wonderful sometimes?) and then weathered it.   Question - were any Caprottis ever kept clean?     and for something different a Heljan CoBo - re-gauged by Mike Edge to EM. I

The second "twin" - ex LMS 10001

Due to other commitments I have not managed to undertake a lot of weathering recently ..but I have started to work through the backlog today starting with 10001. This is a Bachmann model regauged to EM by Mike Edge. I have fitted a Legomanbiffo 37/0 sound chip and then weathered it. end three quarter view and t'other side Baz

On3 American Box Cars

Something different for a change..some American Box Cars..On3 RTR items weathered to look a bit sun burnt and care worn.   Two of the 5 weathered today     A Denver and Rio Grande example     and a Colorado and Western one     enjoy

A Quartet of Duchesses

Been doing some weathering on four Duchesses. These are from a variety of Builders and painters .. all are DJH kits and all are EM   - I love them!     Duchess of Abercorn - light     King George VI - heavy     City of Sheffield - heavy     and finally Sir William Stanier FRS - light     The two heavily weathered locos cover up some blemishes in the paint work.

Diesels, Diesels and diesels!

Been busy fitting sound to a number of diesels and then weathering them..   Lima EE Type 1   Bachmann EE Type 3   Lima EE type 4     and 3/4 shot     and Heljan LMS 10000     and 10000 3/4 front on     The Type 3 and 10000 were regauged to EM by Mike Edge, the other two came with Ultrascales fitted. Pick ups modified on the Lima Type 1 to get it to pull itself and a train!   All fitted with Legomanbiffo sound with one or two CV alterations   Nice to do some die

so can you spot the difference?   A Hornby Old Contemptibles and a comet kit built Old Contemptibles..   and     spot the speedo drive(!)   both are nice but the Comet one has a bit more presence

Departmental stock and a loco

Been busy weathering while at a show at Normanton last weekend. As part of the demo I was asked to show what a but of weathering can do to a set of Departmental wagons. These are all Cambrian kits built and painted by another, I have regauged them to Em and added couplings the a bit of weathering..     and, at the same time, I used a DJH kit built Fairburn Tank to demo light weathering...     Baz

More wagons!

Been very busy preparing wagons and vans for weathering. I have built some vans, rewheeled or regauged a number of others, fitted couplings and added transfers as required.   I am just about finished with Fish Vans (5 Cambrian ones are being built with longer wheelbase chassis) so these     LM (Parkside) and   LNE Insulated (Parkside)   are some of the last ones for the time being.   For a changes I have also been working on a train of Ventilated Meat vans. Been busy doing different things as part of a reduction in my work to do pile..
