Yet another Wooden Wonder - Timber Tracks GWR Goods Shed (C)

Yet another Timber Tracks Kit, this one was far from straight-forward and could be said a bit of a Mojo killer.   Build was hampered slightly by vague instructions, but as usual it went together very well.           And yes I had the soldering Iron out again             At this point I though I'd better work out the lighting..       Then

Yet Another Slightly Smaller Build - Hawker Sea Fury FB.11

Many moon's ago (last year to be precise) I built the 1/24th Scale Typhoon, now it's time for her 'Grandchild' the Sea Fury - also by Airfix, but in 1/48th Scale.   The Sea Fury entered service too late to see action in WW2, she was herself a development from the 'Tempest and the Typhoon' and with the coming of the Jet's - the fastest production piston-engined fighter that was built (482 mph).   She saw action in the Korean War and became known as the 'MIG Killer' for the first 'confirmed'

Yet Another Big Build - Airfix 1:24th Scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk. VB Tropical Part 3

Another update, though progress has slowed due to me having the cold from hell..     Most of the underside bits added - the tropical radiator Vokes Air Filter required some serious fettling to fit properly)         A small amount of filler was required to get all the unsightly gaps filled (and the redundant gun positions - kit can make the MK.1A as well)     Masked up and ready for the underside to be painted (engine side panels are blu-tacked in place - as they won't be fit

Yet Another Big Build - Airfix 1:24th Scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk. VB Tropical Part 2

With a moulding that is nearly as old as me - some extreme measures were employed...   If in doubt - deploy the mole-grips..       (another cameo)     Fuselage done...   On with the wing assembly and a whole lot of guess work as to where the cannon go (the instructions give no clues)           Unlike the Typhoon, the Spitfire doesn't have wing spars - so extreme measures are needed to get the wings to fit!!     Suddenly a Spitfire appears...     To be co

Yet Another Big Build - Airfix 1:24th Scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk. VB Tropical

While building the mighty Typhoon last year, on a whim I acquired the 1/24th Scale Spitfire VB Trop on a certain auction site...   It went into my stash of kits, until the beginning of the month - when I plucked up the courage to start building it.   Compared to the Typhoon, this is a far more basic kit - however it has certainly proved itself to be a challenging build, due to the age of the tooling.   The Merlin 45/46 engine a far more basic build compared to the Typhoon (and to the Mosqu

Yet Another Armoured Build: British M10 IIC Achilles (Tank Destroyer)

Another shake and bake kit from Tamiya, this version of the kit is from 2014.   The kit (some of the photo's are a bit naff in this part and I haven't included them, so apologies)                 The build, as before I build up the lower hull and paint and add the tracks. However this one has an interior..       With the lower hull built, I turned to the upper hull - t

Yet Another Armour Build: Tamiya 1/48th Scale Russian SU122 Tank Killer

It's another shake and bake Armour kit from Tamiya and no it wasn't going to be green..   Box Art:     Instruction's and chosen scheme (Winter Camo) - on the box, not in the instructions.       What's in the box.             The build, paint and weathering - she went together extremely quickly (no surprise there)

Yet Another Armour Build - Tamiya 1/48th Scale M26 (T26E3) Pershing

Yep another Tank build - this time it's Tamiya's M26 Pershing from 2005..   Box Art   Ye   Instructions and colour call out - yes it's green         I chose to do option C which technically is T26E3 and not a M26 Pershing.   Decals, metal & rubber bits..     The Sprues..             The Build - very straightforward.

Wimpy! A Slightly Smaller Build - Vickers Wellington Mk.1A: Part 2

Finally after a few weeks away from the Wimpy due to Loco commission work (& brief venture venture back to WW1 with the Eindecker) & number of exchanges between myself and Airfix (more on that later) - it's been full steam ahead on the with build...   Test fit of the bomb bay partitions.     Making sure all the main assemblies fit together.     And so the fun with Airfix Customer care began..   I noticed that a part was malformed (E2 main under carriage support strut), so I

Wimpy! A Slightly Smaller Build - Vickers Wellington Mk.1A

When this kit arrived direct from Airfix (courtesy of my regular DPD Courier Boran), on opening the box I knew the Shack would be put on hold temporarily will this kit was started.   The Aircraft division of the Hornby/Airfix of the design/research team have done an amazing job of this kit - they've captured the Geodetic structure perfectly.       The fuselage and it's interior is incredibly detailed and takes a while to build (though a number of parts can be left out if you wish)

Well it was Green - honest guv...

No photos tonight, batteries for the camera are being recharged. So it'll be a brief update.   Rebuilt West Country 34001 Exeter is well on it's way to be truely filthy.   A re-gluing of an errant grill turned into a weathering job of sorts on my sole class 31 it's now a slightly weathered shade of Brunswick Green! It's also given me a chance to try out a different brand of aerosol Varnish, I'm really, really impressed with this stuff. I've used railmatch for quite sometime and usually

Well it is green...

As promised some photo's..   First up is my slightly dirty Class 31 D5512, no chassis issues with it either as yet.     Here are some comparision shots of an unmodified Wrenn 5,250gl tender and the nearly complete one I've done for Matt (Mr Bluebell Railway)   Front View     Side View     Rear View     Should add since taking these I've lined and crested the otherside, once the transfers have dried, it will be on with the final top coats of satin varnish and final assembl

We Have The Technology To Rebuild Her....

....not the Bionic Woman, but another Bionic Bulleid - more that later   Two more loco's rolled off the renaming/renumbering and weathering production line this weekend.   First up was Rebuilt West Country 34095 Brentor another one I hadn't done     And then T9 30337, looking her age I might add (photo's have been redone )       Currently awaiting varnishing and weathering in the paintshop is another King Arthur 30797 Sir Blamor de Ganis.   Then the rebuild operation that's

Update of Sorts...

Another day on the TBG workbench and some progress has been made on the PMV. The body and chassis are as one and the buffers and couplings are fitted!     Still a fair amount to do before I can say job done - glazing, transfers (must remember to order them), fit the roof, etc.   Other news, Rebuilt West Country 34100 Appledore is prepped for the paintshop and it's first phase of weathering.   And finally I've acquired another T9 for my fleet This will become either 30717 or 30718 as I

TNBB: The Sequel - The Shack's Famous Ancestor Part 3

And so the end (of the Next Big Build) begins...   The inner set of engine nacelles getting ready to be fitted     Looks like a Manchester here...     ... that's better there's 4 engines...       Wheels, under-carriage doors and radome in place       Ready for transfers...       Transfer time..         Test fitting & adding the final details.           Done, just waiting for the glue & paint to dry.         The finis

TNBB: The Sequel - The Shack's Famous Ancestor Part 1

I did promise these - the Shackleton's final photo's...                   And now on with the next big build - the Avro Lancaster B.I (F.E)   Another of Airfix's New Tooling's and my first Lanc in over 35 years and compared to the Shack, she's proving to be quite a straight forward build..               Note I have added the Eduard Zoom photo etches in lieu of the the transfers supplied for the various instrument panels..       Also having

The Big Build - The Typhoon Tale - Part 1

As a Christmas Present to myself last year (also a reward for not actually dying – that’s a story for another time), I treated myself to the Airfix 1/24 Scale Hawker Typhoon Mk 1B.   The kit is the stuff of legends, rumours abound that it takes a year to build - when I saw the instruction book (not a booklet), I saw why…   Finally at the beginning of June – with Loco commissions out of the way, I decided it was time to start it..   Up first was the Cockpit (pages 8 to 11 – of the instructi

The Big Big Build - The Typhoon Tale Part 3 - The End of the Tunnel!

The build that started on June 6th (2017) is finally at an end.   This set of photo's, show the undercarriage installed, cannon access panels partly painted and the frankly massive prop painted.         In this pair, it's the canopy completely painted and partially installed       Next few, the cannon access panels all finished painting (these took nearly two days to paint) and everything not glued positioned as it will be after adding the transfers         Transf

Tales of Bulleids and Beyer Garratts!

Time for an update with a couple of projects that have appeared in various threads, but in very brief form..   Merchant Navy (Rebuilt) 35002 Union Castle   Using a bargain 'United States Lines' as a donor along with a heavily modified Wrenn/Dublo 5,250gl tender top, the renaming side is the usual way... with the usual suspect - Fox Transfers & Jackson Evans. However I'll go through the reworking of the tender.   First off is to make the tender top fit the donor loco's tender chassis, n

T9's an update

Well another week or so down the road in 2010 and my current spate of T9's are nearly all complete. 30718 and 30288 are finished, just 30726 remains on the workbench, just needing a few final tweaks to her weathering. I have got to photograph 30288 in natural light as I ran out of time yesterday. Here's the finished 30718     On the Bulleid front the 'Bionic One' 34014 is ready for the paintshop now and some serious weathering
