For some reason I have ended up with a few ex LMS engines
first up
a Crab... Wills kit built by Nicktoix, chassis by Mike Edge
next up a Model Loco Black 5 with a Portescap motor bought second hand..
and as way of comparison a Hornby Black 5. Tim Easter started the mods to this at BRM Doncaster this year and I have just finished it
and as another comparison on of my Ks Black 5s - built by my father painted and lined by me
I saw a Bachmann Stanier Mogul for sale on RMWeb. A swift offer and accptance meant it was shortly on its way to me. Thanks to @Rowsley17D for the quick arrival.
Only problem was..it was in LMS Lined Black. Great but I wanted a BR one. A quick strip down, a spray of Halfords undercoat then a spray of topcoat (Hicoat). New lining courtesy of fox/modelmasters (possibly easier to do the lining by hand but the use of boiler band transfers does speed the process) a new number - 42949 a Br
I bought a second hand Hornby 8f quite a while ago. Before I went on my holidays I had repainted the can sides and renumbered it as a BR engine. I have started to weather it so..
and a bit of a close up
Big problem is that there is oil leaching through the various "holes" in the bodywork... so more weathering will be taking place...
Hope you like this..
Long time since I posted in my Blog. Been away and then ...
Positive thing about the Lockdown is more time to finish items in the "Roundtuit" pile.
I had a number of locos acquired without motors and gearboxes. I had some motors and gearboxes so...
take a High Level gearbox and a Mitsui motor,
add to an existing Wills 4F and
a 4F with tender cab.. do it again and
A 4F with a high sided tender
I
As some of you may have observed I have steam locos (and stock ) from the ex LMS, Ex BR Standards, and ex LNER..
This is due to the fact that my late father and I had slightly different views of the railway world (strangely enough he was very biased towards the LMS despite living in the North East. Despite this he did build a lot of ex LNER engines for me to paint and line...

an ABS L1 - it weighs a ton, uses Romford wheels and a D13 motor and gearbox - and seems to have more

I have bought some second hand locos recently. They came without motors so I have fitted Mashima 1624s to them.
First up Derbyshire Yeomanry a Millhome Kit in BR Green weathered down a little and due to be available for our new club layout Chapel en le Frith this October at the Leeds Show.

D13 motor and quite powerful but requires a new chassis as the original one has worn out.
and as a comparison the Bachmann version
So having stock locked into all parts of the house while a loft conversion takes place I have found a few photos of "different" ex LMS passenger tank engines.
First up
A Jidenco ( well partly) Stanier 0-4-4T.
Built by my late father who had to do a bit of scrtach building to get it as right as he could. Romford wheels and X04 type motor.
and to follow up, a Craftsman Midland 0-4-4T built by Nicktoix - I changed the wheels as I can't get on with the older Sharman Wheels
Been busy umpiring plus loft clearing out for new railway room :-)
so some Type 2 diesels from my collection
First up a Hornby Type 2 - regauged, weathered and extra pick ups added
and a Bachmann .Type 2 .again gently weathered with DG Couplings added
and finally for now a weathered Bachmann Type 1
some more to come when work allows.....
Being from County Durham I do have a soft spot for ex LNER locomotives. Helping to "play" with Herculaneum Dock (owned by Mike Edge) I have become more interested in ex LNER (and ex GC ones especially) so ...
a Bachmann J11 was purchased while it was on a Rails Low price sale. New DG couplings fitted and a bit of weathering and...
I then had an opportunity to buy an ex Wills K3 in lined BR Black. Again a DG coupling fitted to the tender and a gentle wash over with some inks and powders
For some reason I have ended up with two directors' saloons and their locos - neither of which I can really make use of!
First Up an M&L LNWR Cornwall and Saloon.
hand lined (I must be mad!!) I built the saloon, my late father the loco - and this has visited many, many layouts over the years.
And now a NER Class A - scratchbuilt by father, painted by me..
and then a D &S Inspection Saloon painted and lined by me with some Steve Barnfield transfers..
last seen
And just a sample of the BR Standards - strangely enough I have built these..
First up a Standard 2-6-4T - DJH kit built painted and lined by myself.
Of course Bachmann then brought one of these out and it has a lot of pipework not in the DJH kit
Next up a Standard 5MT - again a DJH kit built painted and lined by myself.
and of course just when I finished it along came an RTR version
and finally, for now, a DJH Brit...
- and again.. a new RTR one available.
Long time since I added anything on my loco blog. I have acquired a few locos but haven't manage to finish any of them. Apart from this one..one of my favourite locomotives
The Old Contemptibles - a Hornby Rebuilt Scot gently weathered by me..
Baz
To match the locomotives available to the needs of the layout a couple of renaming jobs were required... now undertaken.
first up my Mainline/Comet Jubilee - now Madras
and a Hornby Rebuilt Scot
the Middlesex Regiment
Baz
A few Pacifics... there are still some to be built...
First Up a Wills A2 built by my father..
I think it has an X04 motor....... time that was changed, and now a curiosity
A Jamieson Streamlined Duchess. Bought semi complete I added some detail, painted and lined it and recently added some new magnets to what is a rewheeled Hornby Dublo chassis
Back from hols so some new photos.
First up a Ks Princess
Lady Patricia - with Romford wheels and a D13 motor - need to straighten the cab...
and a Ks Duchess - City of London -apologies for the wonky tender as it has a compensated chassis which defeated my father...
Both built by my father and painted by me. not yet weathered but in the queue for fettling and weathering
and finally a Jamieson Kit of a Streamlined Duchess - City of Bradford. Bought semi complete using a H
You may have seen some of these before but it closes out the GC locos I own.
First up Millhome kit B5 built by my dad, D13 motor, whitemetal body
then the Earl - scatchbuilt in Brass with Millhome fittings, DS10 motor, Romford wheels
and finally a scratchbuilt in Brass Millhome fittings, DS10 motor, Romford wheels
and finally a dirty Robinson 04 - loco courtesy Bachmann, weathering by me
I haven't sorted out my D11 as yet - once its dirty and all the bits
As a student at Leeds University I became a member of the Leeds Model Railway Society in 1976. I attended the Exhibition that year in October (Thursday, Friday and Saturday opening in those days in a dark (and cold early and late door) Corn Exchange. I was asked to help to operate a layout by Nicktoix which was also linked to the Wigan Wallgate/Gravity yard built by Mike Edge.
I had a brief overview of how it all worked and.. off we went. One minor problem was that A Ks Black 5 in LMS lined
A number of locos have been laid aside for a while waiting new motors and gearboxes. Some have already been posted on here but I did catch up a lot during lockdown.
This DJH WD had been built by someone else. The motor was out of mesh so.. a High Level Gearbox soldered to a cheap Chinese motor has been fitted and a smidgeon of dirty weathering added.
This Wills 4F came without a motor or gears but did have a tender cab (used from Skipton as part of their "sn
Well some more items are slowly getting finished..
A while ago I acquired a DJH Duchess .. named as "City of Liverpool" the name didn't match the loco/tender combination.. (Duchesses and City locos and tenders are a mine field)
Eventually I bought some Fox nameplates for "City of Leicester" a very camera shy loco.
This has been "shed cleaned" but I notice I have not finished - I need a bit of dirt on the top of the boiler cladding (where you can't reach it
I am busy photographing all of my stock for insurance purposes. This blog will make use of these photos - together with some notes on construction and I hope people can get involved with it.
First up ex Great Central Locomotives - the scratch/kit built ones are my late fathers' work. I have posted the odd picture of some of these in the recent past with some interest. So lets begin with a Tank Locomotive - a Q1 O-8-0T.
This was scratchbuilt in Brass , suing Millhome castings, Ks whe
Many moons ago my father built an M&L Cornwall locomotive together with its Inspection Saloon.
I lined it ..not sure I could do that now and this loco along with a NER Class A 2-4-2T with a D&S NER Inspection saloon has visited a large number of layouts over the years - including Stoke, Grantham and the Gresley Beat...
This is a scratchbuilt item ...

So Beauty and the Beast - first up beauty..
Cotswold compound - built by Nicktoix a long tine ago and repainted into BR Black by me - I find the compounds fascinating and really beautiful. This is a Sutherland Kit with the cylinders attached to the footplate so it has removable connecting rods..
and then the beast - a Ks garratt.. built by my father and painted by me - long due a strip down and rebuild but this time with two motors. Could have found its way to Chapel en le frith so
I have dug out some more locos... this time some Industrials. I apologise for the state they are in they have been in a box for a while and have been moved from place to place in the loft. Now I have my own railway room they should see an update and be joined by some new build locos...
First up No1 Puddleglum a Centre Models Avonside with a Ks HP2m motor and Sharman wheels..
And don't comment on the name - as chosen by her indoors....
then No 2 - Percy again a Centre Models Kit
