ICI Hoppers.

Got in from a shift on the airport to find the first three of my Peak Forest hoppers had arrived. Well Hell!!! To use a Pembrokeshire expression!! Georgeous. See the slightly blurred photos. They look spot on and they run superbly through the whole gamut of Peco points, both code100 and code75. Small radius up to single and double slips. My fiddle yard and low level goods yard and industrial lines are code 100, the mainline and high level terminus is code 75. Don't ask!! Given the way code100 ha

PDK Models.

I must say something about PDK Models. I recently ordered two kits off PDK. I got an email back from them telling me when the delivery date was. When the kits arrived, I was amazed by the packing. Each kit was in a plastic container which, dropping a concrete block on them, would protect the brass parts perfectly!! Thank you to PDK, not only were the kits perfect , but I now have two very useful containers!! I am getting to grips with the H16. Most enjoyable. Chris.

Scaleforum Urmston.

I did my usual visit to the scale exhibition at Urmston last weekend. Most enjoyable. I was very impressed with the progress made on Liverpool Lime Street. Like a number of people, I had heard the comments, 'Dosen't work. Boring ' etc, etc!! The layout has always been a thing of beauty! It reminds me of visits to 'The Pool' in the 60's and 70's. I had always felt that this was a layout that was going to come in to it's own! Saturday proved me right! I must apologise that I didn't

CSP.

I feel I must post my experience using CSP kits. They have had a certain amount of aggro on this forum. In September I ordered a 200HP Sentinel kit. I then waited for it to arrive. I waited and waited...... Now, if I took notice of certain people on this site, I would have thrown my toys out of my pram and had a hissy fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Instead I did some modelling and had a hissy fit!!!!!!!!!!! I did not, however cancel my order. The kit arrived last Saturday. I know, I know, it is a fair time

Geen Coaches

I must write to praise David Geen's Midland Railway coach conversion kit. In the box you get sides and ends for six Midland elliptical roof coaches. The rest is like building a Comet conversion kit. The Mainline or Bachman period one LMS coaches are the donor vehicles. You can, if you prefer, build the complete coach, using Comet, 247 or your own scratched parts. So far, I have gone down the Mainline route. The sides are thin enough to form the tumblehome easily and fit under the existi

Disjointed Stuff.

I have finally enclosed an image of the Dave Geen Midland coach sides. This may not have worked properly. I apologise but I'm afraid I'm a complete and utter burke at computer stuff. I will get better! I'll have to if I want to put modelling shots on this epistle!!! Has anybody come across the Kernow newsletter this month? They are slashing the prices of two models which would be good for motor bogies, namely the Hornby Railroad Warship and the Hornby 2BIL. For under £40 the Wars

Manchester Museum Heritage Weekend.

I know this is a bit last minute, but if anybody wants some authentic Manchester Corporation Leyland PD3 travel today, get into Manchester. These two are doing free rides between the Museum of Science and Industry, the Peoples Museum, the Jewish Museum and the Transport Museum at Boyle St. All are well worth a visit, but the pies, corned beef barms and tea at Boyle St are Ace!!!! Go on, you know you want to!!! If you can't do today, the second weekend is next weekend. These two or two more from

DC Models.

I was at the Lancashire and Yorkshire DCC event at Boyle St on Sunday. I took the opportunity, whilst buying books, to have a chat with Charlie of DC Models, about the plastic kit range. As I expected, after the fire, he is not making any plans to reintroduce the range. What he did say was that he would look at what stock he had left and sell them as body kits only. I reckon that is OK. After all, we are modellers, there are plenty of cheap Bachmann, Hornby, Lima and, more importantly, Replica

EM2s.

Despite having finished the run of chemo, the residual joy persists!!! Taste buds that go bonkers, too sweet, too bland etc. No sleep 'cos of the steroids. That I can put to some use! First of twp rest days today, so when I couldn't sleep last night I decided to have a go at rejuvenating a complete wreck of a Heljan EM2 I'd managed to pick up . I wasn't having to get up at 02-45 for early shift!!!! This thing was boxed and had been given to a colleague who took one look at the state of it and 'F

Information.

Afternoon from sunny Manchester, I don't know wether this is a case of Granny and sucking eggs, but I felt I had to post this. One of the purposes of this superb beast which we all are part of is the free exchange of information. However, there is a fount of information available at most preserved railways. It lives in sheds, dark rooms, coaches and vans. I am referring to the collections of old magazines which are for sale. I was first turned on to this library by my mate Mike, 'Coachb

EM Society Scale North Exhibition.

For those who are interested here is some bus information for people going to the EM Society exhibition in September. If you are coming to Manchester by rail go to Piccadilly Gardens bus staition and get the Stagecoach 255. This will get you 600m away from the Partington venue. For more detailed information go to the Transport for Manchester website. Everything is there. Having no motor at the moment, I have, successfully, used public transport to get to the previous venue and ful

Kernow.

Anybody wants an SR powerdrive, Kernow are doing Hornby SR units for £89. One unit will power a 4COR both pulling and pushing up my incline. With mods, you can fit this drive to a Phoenix 4COR. I am endeavouring to see wether you can do the same to MTK stuff. Chris.

EM Scaleforum.

Did EM scale do at Partington yesterday. Had a really good time. Great modelling, the running was very good, hardly saw the 'Hand of God' at all!! I had several good conversations , namely with Mike Edge, Chris from High Level and a really nice Welsh guy whose name I'm afraid I didn't ask, operating on Glaisden. It had been suggested to me that there wasn't a proper 'signature' layout and a load of 'Shunting Planks'!!! Well, I really liked the 'Planks.' Waterloo St. Any layout with a Fowler Dock

Strange Prototypes.

I have been tipped off by Coach Bogie as to the next Rails exclusive. Anybody want a model of the North Eastern petrol electric railcar? The beast that is preserved at the museum in Newcastle I think. Considering the way North Eastern stuff goes on ebay, I reckon they will sell a few!! It is a striking beast with a red and white livery and it is pretty in its own way. Unlike the Dynamometer car, it didn't last into BR in this form. Rule 1 could apply but that will depend upon price!! Don't get m
