Had the airbrush out today so gave this new arrival a does of grime on the underframe and roof. I’ve kept the sides relatively clean. Not a very glamorous subject but a characterful little model!
When it's too hot outside to do anything sensible, why not slap some paint on a wagon. This LMS bogie bolster wasn't in my plans, so I hatched an idea to turn it into an internal user wagon for my Sentinel to shuffle about. Pretty pleased with the overall look, even if the prototype fidelity is dubious at best!
Taking advantage of the sunny weather to grab a shot of my 2 Bachmann Class 66s together. 66068 in EWS livery and 66552 'Maltby Raider' in Freightliner green livery, both having had smith couplings and bufferbeam detailing fitted and 3D printed drivers from ModelU and of course a dose of weathering.
Missing etched nameplates but pretty much there with the weathering, one of the locos I remember seeing as a kid 50008 Thunderer in its unique Laira blue livery. I've got another 50 to do...50015 in Dutch livery of course!
Managed to get another couple of wagons done for my privatisation era engineers train between DIY jobs this weekend! The MTAs are all still numbered the same, but I figured I was better getting on with the weathering whilst the mojo was there to get them done - I can always go back and amend the TOPs panels later. For now I'm turning a blind eye!
Here they are posed with my grubby grey 08, as seen on my other blog entries.
I've since added the remnants of a ballast load to the
A work in progress MTA versus a fresh out of the box example! Improved by a few washes of enamel paint and removing the tension lock occupiers. Needs matt varnishing a touch of powders next but already an improvement! Now...who does replacement EWS TOPS panels for these wagons...
Having shunted the scrap yard, local shunter 08648 is in charge of the trip up the short branch back to the BR network.
My Bachmann Class 08, weathered and detailed with laserglaze and etched arrows and wipers from Shawplan with Bachmann POA scrap wagons, weathered to look battered and pitted to (hopefully!) look like the real thing.
Here's my finished Hornby Sentinel. It's been nicknamed the stealth! Originally in Wabtec livery I debranded it using T-cut to make it more generic, and then gave it a weathering using enamels and powders. A good spray of matt varnish helps bring it all together. Lifting eyes on the bufferbeams were drilled out whilst fitting 3 links, and I also binned off the Hornby 4 pin decoder socket and replaced it with a hard wired Lenz Silver - mostly as I had one in stock but it seems to be performing w
My latest 00 gauge locomotive in progress, hopefully representing the bog standard, hard working and nondescript EWS shed as seen all across the country. Waiting on buckeyes from Precision Labels and the next release of drivers from ModelU to populate the cab, and eventually a Legomanbiffo sound chip.
It's been a while since I posted any 00 gauge content! But this picture hopefully shows the improvement in adding a ModelU 3D printed driver in place of the standard Bachmann humanoid thing. Streets ahead in my opinion!
Whilst I've been posting lots of pictures of my N gauge stock on my other blog, I've not been neglecting my 00 stuff. In fact quite the opposite, as I've been ploughing on with the tedious task of laying track, wiring, testing, wiring...repeat until confident all works. The track plan is a simple loop wth headshunt and siding, and it'll allow me to run trip freights into a simple private railhead somewhere to exchange wagons. The use of a brake van due to an unseen propelling move can also be th
Hello,
It's been a long time since I've posted! But I've been busy none the less, mostly with my N gauge models, but thanks to a kind offer of a Bachmann 08 in response to a wanted post I've got the most generic and useful loco of all - a BR blue 08. I've replaced the glazing with Shawplan laserglaze, some etched windscreen wipers and added Smith's screw-links, along with some other bits and bobs. Weathered using oil paint washes, a blast of Citadel Purity Seal spray varnish to tone down the
This week I have been lucky enough to get hold of a second-hand Bachmann 37671 'Tre Pol and Pen' in Railfreight Distribution triple grey livery. It's an earlier release without any tail lights but I've wanted a centre headcode 37 in triple grey for a while, so this ticked the boxes. I soon set about to attacking it with the paints and powders!
Given my usual oil paint wash of grubby black, a mix of black and burnt umber washed into the recesses and then streaked using a large flat brush
The pride of my 00 fleet - Bachmann 37035, fitted with Legoman Biffo sound chip. Sounds mega! Weathered as per all my stock with oil paint washes, purity seal varnish spray and weathering powders. I've always loved dutch livery, since seeing a pair of dutch 37s names at Worcester open day when I was a kid - City of Worcester and Lea and Perrins, if I remember correctly...
I've also recently managed to squeeze a Youchoose Zimo MX648 and sugar cube speaker into my 03 - the speaker is in the ca
Progress on the shelf layout has stalled; mainly due to the lack of suitable storage causing a bit of damage and the restrictive track layout. It doesn't mean it hasn't had a lot of use though; our 5 year old loves driving the Legobiffoman equipped 37, and even Thomas has been chipped. I'm happy to play shunter and couple up the 3 links and change points whilst he drives!
So I thought it was time to go back to a proven design, one that has plenty of play value; the classic inglenook! A deliv
Way back in this thread I was asking for details about the working of Hereford good yard for a potential N gauge project. I never did build it, but did start building in some suitable stock in 00. Then Heljan announced they were producing the ex-BR class 05 in Bulmers Cider livery...I knew I'd have to get one when they were released.
Well I picked mine up yesterday courtesy of Hereford Model Centre, and once I'd given it a test, fitted a Digitrax DZ126IN decoder and stick on the very de
Like most modellers I find it difficult to remain focused on what project at a time and frequently jump from one project to another; I model in both N and 00 gauges, and whilst I've posted plenty of pictures on my N gauge blog I've not shared any of my bits in the larger scale.
First up is 08648 in grubby BR general grey. For some reason I think this layout suits the workhorse nature of the humble grok. I've fitted Smith's screw links alongside Shawlplan etched arrows and windscree
