Moving pictures

When exhibiting Fisherton Sarum at various exhibitions the arrival of a video camera being pointed at the layout usually precedes either a derailment or more likely an operator error, also aligning the turn table (currently still done by eye, although an automatic alignment method is on the drawing board) suddenly becomes tricky due to twitchy fingers on the control switch.   I am sure it is the red light of doom…if there isn’t already a law about it then there should be, maybe Farn

21C6, Peninsular & Oriental S. N. Co to make debut on Fisherton Sarum. (at Ab-Rail 2011 on 5th March)

Bulleid Merchant Navy pacific 21C6 will be seen hauling the Atlantic Coast Express on Fisherton Sarum at Ab-Rail 2011 on the 5th March. A great day for Fisherton Sarum at the Astolat show

Fisherton Sarum had a sucessful day yesterday at the Astolat show in Guildford. Even with the early start, due to the fact that exhibitors were unable to set on the Friday evening (unless you are a certain very talented modeller and photographer ) set up went well and other than one trouble some point motor on the double slip all seemed well.   I really pleased when Bob Symes, you may remember him from such TV shows as "Model World" and "Tomorrows World" in the mid 70's on the BBC, had a good

Fisherton Sarum to host the 1948 Locomotive exchanges this weekend (during the Astolat show 15/01/11)

This coming Saturday (15/01/11) at the Astolat model railway Exhibition in Guildford Fisherton Sarum will be hosting some of the locomotives seen on the Southern Railway (yes I know technically it was a region by then) during the locomotive exchanges held during April and June 1948.   In the immediate aftermath of the formation of British Railways the newly formed Regions were generally allowed to continue the locomotive build programmes that had already been approved and put in place by the p

Fisherton Sarum - post Manchester

Well its been over a week now since the Manchester Show. I have to say it was on the whole a great weekend and thanks must go to my able helpers for the weekend firstly my Mum and Dad and also Roger, Mark (GWMark) and his son Daniel from the High Wycombe and District MRS who gave up their weekend to help me operate the layout.   The new venue for the show seemed to be pretty good, certainly makes unloading and load easier and quicker than the old venue and is a nice well lit sports hall in w

Fisherton's next outing...11/12th Sept

Gosh just realised how long it's been since I last updated this blog. Well there is kinda a reason for that... which is that not much has been happening on the personal modelling front with the layout for a while.   However Fisherton Sarum will be attending the Reading Society of Model Engineers centenary celebration event in a couple of weekends time on the 11/12th September.   The event is being held at the Blessed High Farringdon School, Fawley Road, Southcote Road, Reading, RG30 3EP.

Layout - Fisherton Sarum - post Warley

Well I think I have just about recovered from exhibiting at the Warley show last weekend (my third exhibition in three consecutive weeks with three different layouts!). From my perspective the show went well and from what I could see (although I did not manage to get around the whole show and see everything) the overall standard of layouts appeared to be very high and perhaps an improvement of previous years.   I am indebted to my operating team which comprised of my dad, Mark (GWMark on here)

Layout - Fisherton Sarum - Warley this weekend

Well its only a couple of days to go until Fisherton Sarum makes an appearance at Warley (stand B32) If you are attending the show please come and say hello. I have been busy touching a few things up, fixing a broken yard lamp and generally cleaning and making everything presentable. I am looking forward to this evening as GWMark of this parish is going to try out the new turntable speed controller, this will enable an increased initial inertia to get the table bridge moving before reducing to

A fresh start and a new blog

Fisherton Sarum is a Southern Railway shed set between 1946 and 1949 those migrating over from the previous version of RM Web will no doubt be familiar with my thread on there. As this is basically a finished layout (if they are ever finished) this blog will concentrate on updates on its travels and also a few odds and ends that still need to be done to improve operation etc.   Fisherton Sarum has appeared in the December issue of Railway Modeller (and in video format on their Annual CD Rom)
