The Bachmann Class 90 - Number 3 lands !!

So, a few days after the long awaited DB90s landed, forthcoming DB90 number three followed, once more a Freightliner Powerhaul, but not for long I imagine, well, the DB90 pool of X locos comes in a variety of liveries, and most of the below liveries will feature at Johnson Street IEMD. These being: DB Cargo (90028 - also seen as 90019 and now 90035 as well) DB Cargo ex DRS (90034)   DB Schenker (90018) DB EWS faded (90020 and 90039) DB was First Scotrail (90021)

Return of 90019...

so, where do we start this blog... railway junctions... i have recently applied for a job on the railways ... and i was thinking about not just having lived by a railway, but the junctions I have lived next to....Ouston Junction... the Leamside/Washington junction and Stafford South Junction. How did I manage to have lived next to three once great junctions? I just wish I'd taken more photographs of Ouston Junction which had been on my doorstep for a few years at its virtual ending and vividly r

Multimodal, Malcolm and Bill do Rose Heath

26th May 2021   With the ready supply of DB Cargo Class 90s out of Crewe IEMD due to Grand Central's demise, DB have opted to increase the number of different services 90s are hauling, starting with a trial on 4X40 Shell /BP tanker service from Warrington  bank Quay to Wembley sidings, seen passing Rose Heath to the south. Meanwhile Malcolm rail 90024 out on test but failed just south of Rose Heath station.   Note:   In the real world, there is a place near Lockerbi

Malcolm Rail Class 90024 by Olivia's Trains - second glance

Bachmann DB 90024 in Malcolm Rail   This evening, I had to pinch myself a further time. The Bachmann Class 90, reliveried by some bright spark, yes, a ha, no pun intended (sparky wires... ) ... connected to Olivia's Trains.   Ever since the Bachmann Class 90 was announced, and with modelling modern electric as I am, this livery was something i was looking forward to seeing. I had sometime ago chosen to focus my efforts around EWS and the transition into DBS/DBC. Class 90s hav

Malcolm and Multimodal do Making Tracks at Chester Cathedral

7th August 2021 - Malcolm (90024) and Multimodal (90019) at Making Tracks     Having first laid eyes on the Chester Cathedral layout on Youtube several months ago, seen below on Hornby Magazine's clip, I just knew i had to see it, not on someone's video as such, but get out there and see it in the flesh, there have been a number of exhibitions where OLE layouts have been present but this was probably the first where i was either (a) able to get involved in or (b) had sufficient en

Making Tracks Three Christmas at Blakemere Craft Centre - 7th January 2024

MT3 @ Blakemere - 7th January 2024   Having joined the volunteer team at Making Tracks Three in the summer, a further opportunity was extended to me to do so again at Blakemere and I had signed up to do four days there, over the exhibition, culminating in four Sundays, the last of which was 7th January.   It was a great day, really busy and a pleasure to work with the other volunteers and the Railnuts gang to entertain the folks of Cheshire.   For this event, I took

Making Tracks Three Christmas at Blakemere Craft Centre

16th December to 7th January 2024   As one of the volunteers at Making Tracks Three at Chester Cathedral, i was asked if I would like to take part over the Christmas period and when someone asks would I like to take my locos out for a run out through an electrified landscape, that could only lead to one answer ... hell yes ... so ... my DB90s took to the Making Tracks landscape, this time, at Blakemere, which is near to Northwich, Cheshire (CW8) ... I have been twice so far ... and had

loco update - 9th June 2023

This morning 90031 has arrived at his new resting place, with the assistance of DB yard mate 66065, having had the necessary wizardry from @railtec-models to create the artwork to replicate as near to what 90031 actually looks like now. Thank you Steve.   It was then the turn of Jerry  @Squirrel Rail to create a significant aged look inspired by the actual example but not necessarily every blemish - the 90 in my world would likely have worked more so would be less aged now :-).

loco update - 90035 - 14th March 2024

Loco update - March 2024   Latest DB90 to join Johnson Street IEMD   90035 was one of DB's active 90s during their tenure of the contract to provide traction for MALCOLM Group. 90035 was, during this time, repainted from tired EWS livery with faded decals into new DB red but unlike matching classmates 90019 and 90028 wasn't named.    One of my first DB90s to join my fleet was 90028, named Sir William McAlpine, nicknamed "Bill", named at York's National Railway Museu

Loco update - 2nd December 2023 - Latest DB90 to arrive

Christmas is on the nearby horizon and in light of this, Santa Claus's sleigh accidentally dropped a couple of new arrivals in to the Johnson Street stable.   One of the Skodas I had been looking to add to my stable for some time was Christine, in DB red. 90037 had been going to Toton along with 90039 for new liveries. 90039 had been going for Grand Central liverying. It was all set to become the fourth of five DB90s into Bumblebee livery, when the news broke that the plan to operate p

Loco update - 21st January 2022 - Bachmann 90 in ex-GC ''Bumblebee1'' 90026

1st January 2022   Christmas 2021 falls later in the Calendar year and runs into early January 2022 in the form of the ex-Grand Central ''Bumblebee livery'' Bachmann Class 90 wonderfully replicated by @Squirrel Rail. Seen here at Johnson Street IEMD, having been out on test, with Jack (90036), having changed pool codes from WEAC to WEJS.      It's a real shame that the DB90s allocated to Grand Central workings, 90026, 90029, 90020, 90039 and 90021 (in order of

layout update - 23rd November 2022 - knitting developments

23rd November 2022   The advent of my layout returning home following the sad passing of good WCML and model Rail enthusiast Ian Rae in September known to some here as amertonman, has seen my OLE plans changing somewhat.   The original plan was to be using nBrass and whilst this may still feature in some capacity, the main catenary sections are here and now going to be using ebay innovator blueflash90 whose catenary is available on ebay currently.   Tonight, having

Layout & loco update - 22nd August 2021 - Last third of the build AND Bachmann 66065 does DCC Sound & Barbie visits her new home

22nd August 2021   Having recently changed to a new project manager who has the time and know how to complete the project. The layout has also been moved nearer to its eventual position and as part of preliminary inspections, the layout wiring has been adjusted and is all now working as it was originally plumbed in - thank you @amertonman.   @amertonman has also been tasked with harnassing the third of my DCC sound chips for a Class 66 to a recent acquisition, Bachmann's most

Knitting lessons - page two - 25th November 2022

Knitting lessons - page two   Whilst out for an extended lunchtime today in what could only be described as a crisp, fresh but bright mid November in Stafford, an opportunity to study the heavy gantry at the North end of Stafford Station, one which is going to feature as part of the Johnson Street IEMD OLE plan.   I'd gone to catch the DB90's movement down to Daventry DIRFT following the failure of 90029 and 90034 at DIRFT and Mossend respectively - this movement later ended

Knitting lessons

Knitting lessons - Friday 11th February 2022   The beginning of the OLE at Johnson Street IEMD starts today.   nBrass multi-track spans will shortly criss cross the main shed area, like the below:   The terminating gantry mast is a PECO mast with the cantilever arms removed.   The Ayr style gantry adaptation is similar to those seen in the below Youtube clip by fellow Youtuber Smokie Joe:     See between 0.14 and 0.29 ...

Johnson Street IEMD: Working on my knitting

24th August   Having seen my layout recently has really given me the taste for getting it finished soon, it sorted as it's becoming like the never ending story, well, fortunately, with little things going in the background, hopefully, it will nearly be sorted, I have  the next DB 90 coming along in a paint shop far far away - and also the gantries designed to carry the 25kv wires, today,  several of the flat pack gantries arrived from Nbrass - their gantries are the nearest thing we ha

Johnson Street IEMD: The rollercoaster ride continues

16th September 2020   Its been quite a busy time for those paying attention to the world of the Class 90, Freightliner have not that long ago acquired Greater Anglia's 90s with them going to EMUs, they have also been in the process of reliverying several of these into G&A Orange and black and even more recently than that, they have started putting some of them into service, even those which were are still in ex-GA are now working on FL workings, which tehnically means Freightliner

Johnson Street IEMD: The Highs and Lows of ''the railway and the modelling'' that follows it

10th September 2020   Those of us following the real world activities and operations of the modern railway have been saddened to hear that as a result of the unprecentedented circumstances that we are living with across the planet are leaving their imprint on the world of the railways as well as everything else. Grand Central who have emerged as an operator delivering passenger services to the eastern side of the country to lesser stations than the main operators and were due to extend

Johnson Street IEMD: Progress update: September 2019

18th September   Its been a while since there was any update from me on Johnson Street IEMD, so I thought I'd write a blog update about the plans and whats happening in general with this.   Layout   Tomorrow (Thursday), I am hoping to have a snagging session where I will actually get to see the layout with my own eyes as I am having a viewing with the builders. This is going to give me a chance to iron out any small cosmetic issues - sometimes things can get lost in

Johnson Street IEMD: Progress update: November 2019

Having just started my first attempt at uploading videos on youtube for the beginnings of Johnson Street IEMD, i thought it would be a good idea to upload the latest pictures from the world of Johnson Street IEMD. The layout is really coming coming together as one can see in the videos. A depot needs locos and given theat there have been one or three changes from the list back in July, I thought I'd do a blog update, so as of 5th November, the locos at Johnson Street are:   ''United Co

Johnson Street IEMD: Progress update: November 2018

Foreword   Having had one's knuckles wrapped for being a little naughty with the status thing. Fair enough RMweb, I was in the wrong, I shouldnt have done so, so in the manner I did it.   November 29th 2018   So, moving on, the model railway layout project is coming on, how do i know this, becuase Mike and the Mechanics have shown me the bridger girders that are going together to make up the raised bridge feature which forms part of the central scenic section of the layout. One half of the

Johnson Street IEMD: Progress update: June 2019 - Part Two

Having had some good news on the progress of Johnson Street IEMD, the guys have been hard at it, there was a but too much creative licence from them initially but it appears they are back on track now they know what was desired. Further pictures have come through today regarding the cosmetic updates as below.   Pictures top left to bottom right   1 The electric shed picture just has show covers over the inspection pits which will be lit up at both diesel/repair and electric s
