So another stay in hospital gave me the time to get the lining finished on the 9MT so here's the right hand side completed.
Only thing left is weathering, glazing and real coal added to the bunker.
Loco is now back together and sitting in a modified Triang 9F box for safe keeping until I can find the time to fire up the airbrush.
So seeing as folks will be getting their new Hornby versions in their 7 car packs next week I thought it high time I made one to go with my 1980 set
looking at the tgs it seemed that with a few cuts the under frame could be fabricated from two examples, kinda like this
so out came the razor saw

The body shell was used to hold the under frame in place and
Ok, the plan to use ndm/pacer couplings on the dev coach was a non starter. They were too long by about 5mm to give a consistent distance with the other cars. Here’s the dev coach to ndm compared with the tgf…..
So the tgf couplings received a 2.5mm hole drilled as close to the blade end as possible
and then shaped to approximate the ends. Here’s an untouched one and one I’ve attacked next to it. A lot shorter

It’s all built. Will do the painting etc later in the year when I’m feeling better. I’ve also got a TS and a TF to build too, so makes sense to do all the paintwork at the same time
Things have moved on a bit since the last update. The body fabrication has been completed and the base coat of satin black applied. Buffer beams repainted (which are Hornby class 31 for info) and the body fittings replaced. Nothing left now other than tackle the lining
The chassis has also had black paint applied to the fabricated bits and so I could do an (almost) final assembly the cylinders had their red lining applied and satin varnished. Just need to get a Zimo sound decoder an
Nothing else for it, the lining had to be started. Ease myself in, do the boiler bands first
After this the problems started. I had forgotten that the HMRS/PC Models sheet 22 was originally drawn for LNWR locos not BR standards. The shapes really do not match the later locos. To compound this I'd used most of the useful bits off the two spare sheets I had on the last loco, which would have been the 2-8-2 Neverwazza. An order in is with Wizard Models for a couple more she
The Class 3 tank engine sitting on my shelf gathering dust has been bugging me for some time. A somewhat impulse buy when I happened across Trains4U whilst around Peterborough with work.
I didn't need it to complete the collection, I have my old faithful Triang/Hornby example that was really what got me "into" BR Standards.
So, about that gap in my collection - the Class 3 Mogul 77xxx. Recent eBay bargains brought me an Airfix 76xxx kit and a Bachmann BR2 tender for less than 20 quid. S
I've been making a few postings over the forum over the last few days asking for help with horn sounds etc for the class 15 and thanks to the preservation society's voutube channel I have managed to capture and chop around using Audacity to give me a couple of horn sounds. These were added to a standard ESU 16 cylinder diesel project.

Progress over Christmas The main body is painted, just need to add handrails and buffers etc. Cab roofs are stripped of details and are waiting for new roof vents and air horns.
Main progress has been the bogies, pickups added and wired up so it now moves under its own power!
Wheelslip is a big issue but once I've added a couple of pounds of lead it should be fine
Quick update from yesterday's progress:
Bogies have met the razor saw and the front section that carries the coupling have been removed. A strip of plastikard replicating the rib at the other end for strength.
Pickups next and a 10mm hole for access to the new roof fixings in the undriven one.
I've also cemented in small sections to the body sides where the switches used to be and cleaned, lubed and test run the original power bogie - noisy by modern standards but at the sp

Been a while but here's the start of another budget loco build for Fourgig East - A Triang Big Big Hymek.
I bought a pretty good example for £39 from eBay and the process of converting it to a running O gauge loco has started.
First off the raised lettering on the side has been scraped off and the moulded handrails removed. I've also filled in the fixing holes on the roof and fixed a crack. The switch assembly has been removed ahead of filling in the body sides.

While I wait for the new year to start the Mikado I am pottering around with the first of two DP1s on the bench. Over the years I have amassed a quantity of conversion kits/bits etc for DELTIC and now find I have enough for TWO!
The first is for me - Dapol body with A1 grilles etc, Fox transfers and plates, SE Finecast flushglaze and a Bachmann Deltic chassis. The idea is to produce a good loco but 1/3 of the price of an NRM one.

One thing that has been evident from operating my O guage layout Fourgig East at shows is that my makeshift uncoupling hook for 3-link couplings is a bit, well, poor, and I only have one of them so operators have to share!

Pretty pleased with the finish, could be better but having the drill press made the machining of the case loads easier One thing I would do different, and this goes out to anyone else who is contemplating building one of these bits of kit is that the LEDs are mounted on the track side of the pcb. This makes them very prone to being caught during subsequent handling and wiring up which cracks the pcb track!

The signals on Fourgig East are driven by MERG servo driver boards that for now are set-up using a laptop and the appropriate software. However lugging an ancient laptop (it still has a 3.5" floppy drive!) around just in case I need to adjust a signal was bugging me so I spent some Christmas money on a MERG kit 76A Servoset II.

OK, the decision seems to have been made. The Airfix kit and Bachmann tender appeared yesterday and last night I offered up various bits of kit to the chassis and boiler.
There is a difference in mould quality, I had hoped that by using an original airfix kit the plastic might be crisper than the Dapol kit, oh well.
A few issues to consider:

As promised, the GWR coach brown was applied by my trusty 6 quid airbrush - which is now stripped down and it's vital parts soaking in thinners
That's all for a few days whilst the paint hardens, next step will be to flood the cream into the panels
Luggage racks now have their netting - strips of carefully cut up mozzy netting bought off eBay. I have enough netting to do the racks from the entire Slater's production until the end of time
AND FINALLY - the door ventilators are fixed and I've also cemented the top plastikard strip in place. I hope to start drilling and tapping said strip tonight to take the roof lamps which will hold the roof in place.

Interior almost done. I've painted the seats, fitted them to that partitions, soldered up the luggage rack brackets and fitted them, printed out some railway type posters on sticky labels and painted the mirrors with silver paint.
just got to add the netting then I can get on with the exterior fittings ahead of the masking off and paint!
Still not fitted those door ventilators ....
Last night I refitted the wheels and made up and fitted the brake pull rods.
I can't remember if I did this on the Brake Third, but all the linkages on the pull rods are pinned and would pivot if the vacuum cylinder moved! Just a lick of paint and they are done
