About this blog

These are the various bits n'pieces that are part of the Child Okeford layout thread.

Rather than clutter the thread with waffle about rolling stock and road vehicles, a blog might be more appropriate.

Simple images

Three random images, the potted plants reflect that we have just moved all are non-hardy plants into the conservatory and under the car port. And the buffer stop features a lone bearded iris, you just need to find it.   JB

Second opinions are needed

This gives some context to the Gazebo     And this was simply forgotten, about the time everything went Pete Tong      I simply cannot believe that we were seriously considering cutting it up for firewood. Luckily, AD's partner stepped in and re-arranged the workshop to provide wheelchair access and somewhere for the mini-diorama. For a small space, it seems surprisingly spacious and uncluttered.   JB

Decay in a rural environment

Old garages, especially those made of corrugated iron fascinate me. They have character and a sense of social history. Most were to be found in Wales but surely they are universal in their appeal to those who prefer something less corporate.   There used to be a lovely garage in Stockbridge, Hampshire but now it offers half foam lattes with biscotti.             JB

Stuff for Child Okeford

Along the Dorset Stour in the Blackmore Vale it is known as the Valley of Little Dairies or rather it was,  with the last creamery in Sturminster Newton when the cheese factory closed in 2000. Dairy production is still the main method of farming but the milk travels further to Wincanton just across the South Somerset border but everything travels by road.   This Ford Thames Trader worked from new as a milk churn lorry of the Milk Marketing Board from Sturminster Newton, seen at Dorset
