Down the cylinder drain pipes...adding them to Bulleid Pacifics

Since the introduction by Hornby of the Bullied 'West Country / Battle of Britain' Light Pacifics I have always been meaning to get round to either making or sourcing a representation of the cyclinder drain pipework.   Later Hornby models such as the N15 and Rebuiilt Light Pacific's have these supplied as part of the accessory kit but none of these are suitable for the original style Light Pacifics.   As can be seen below there is quite an obvious gap at the fornt end without the pipes fit

Muz workbench - Crediton in two forms

21C148 / s21C148 is now finished and just awaiting light weathering.   The difference in livery as 21C148 condition on one side as yet un-named and in post Feb 1948 condition on the other can be seen, along with the differing deflector lengths.     To answer Ivan's comment is that the casting for the original style cabs (which were based on my original scratch brass cabsides) are available to non members from the Southern Railways Group.

Bulleid butchery

My previous workbench on the 'old' RMweb can be found here.   Hornby have yet to do a Bulleid Light Pacific body variation to suit the original style cab. When first introduced 21C101 to 21C163 had the original Bulleid style cab with narrow front lookout and two large side windows, the rear one of which slid forwards behind the front. Starting in July 1947 the cabs were modified, with a wedge shaped front (sometimes referred to a 'V' shaped) giving a larger front window area, it took until D

Going black and blue...a tale of Locomotive Exhange locos, an WD tender and A4

Gosh is it realy 12 months since I added a workbench entry...thats shocking.   In my defence a number of my project have also formed aprt of an article or two for Hornby Magazine so I have not been able to let the cat out of the bag so to speak.   Speaking of Hornby Magazine, some of you might have seen my article in the march issue earlier this year about the Locomotive Exchanges of 1948 and my creation of City of Bradford and The Hussar as they ran on the Southern coupled to a WD tender.

Creating N15 455 Sir Launcelot

No workbench entries for ages then a couple come along at once....   As some of you will know, I model the Southern Railway between 1946 and 1949. I am currently creating a collection of the build varients of the N15 'King Arthur' class and also the livery variations at the time of being in ex wartime black or Bulleid malachite green. When the N15 “King Arthur†locomotives were first introduced by Hornby in 2007 there were a number of versions that included: the Urie or Manusell cab vari

Black and blue continued....

If you have read my last couple of entries, you will know I have been working on three projects at the moment (well perhaps that should read three that I am actually working on at the moment!)   Firstly the black.....   The first one was to repaint a Bachmann WD tender to pair it with Royal Scot 'Hussar' as she ran on the SR duiring the Locomotive Exchanges in 1948.   Well the paint work and lettering is now complete and she is shown below posed on Fisherton Sarum     Also now finis

A change of eras for Beattie Well Tank

Being a Southern Railway modeller of the period 1946 to 1949 it is not unusual for me to need to re-livery Ready-to-Run models that come on the market as generally they cater for either pre-war or post Nationalisation eras. This is currently the case with the delightful Beattie Well Tanks that have been produced by Dapol for Kernow Models. I have therefore modeled one side as 3329 in its 1946 condition and the other side as 30586 in the early transition style with ‘British Railways’ and the num
