There has been progress, honest, though the photo's don't show it!

Platforms again

The old Eridge platforms were on a slightly different alignment to the new Mk2 Templotted version, so new ones have been made - and it's certainly nice to see them on the layout again!       Meanwhile this nice little H class has appeared from somewhere     Trackwork is nearly all finished, with just a bit of tidying up by the P Way Dept

Eridge station footbridge

New canopy structures

I can't claim any credit for the canopies themselves, just the mobile phone snaps - which at least enable 'ground level' photos to be easily achieved! After previous warping issues with wood and plasticard they have now been done in brass.   Other progress continues, 2 boards are now successfully wired, and we can run trains over them (DCC now) without resorting to the dog-on-a-lead approach.   I'll let the canopy photos speak for themselves:

Shock Horror! A green Loco!

Well, another new item of stock appeared last week, a very nice J Class tank. I suspect Mike was very disappointed it was withdrawn before MT black livery was introduced though...     Track laying is also preceding apace, the second board is mostly finished, and the third board well underway. Board width, Q1s and bogie ballast hoppers

A few recent photos to show we're still progressing on the Eridge rebuild.   The southern (country) end of the layout. Those four tracks will converge into two before the fiddleyard, but how much further it will go is still a subject of discussion - there's another trailing crossover not far beyond, and more signals . Scenery encroaches while long goods are propelled

It's been a long time since this blog was updated, and without the temporary platforms and some buildings it looks almost as if nothing much has happened in 10 months. Not so, much has been done to tweak the trackwork to make it reliable - even if it's not all wired up yet - and at the London end the scenic base for the cutting is now ready for planting and the insulation foam is now encroaching towards the station area.   So here are a few snaps from last Thursday, with a variety of Mike's m

Landforms developing - and other progress

Eridge Mk2 is slowly getting ever closer to where Mk1 finished. Scenic landforms now cover the London end, showing the increased depth of scenery in the new version. Eridge to go DCC

This may or may not have been significantly influenced by reaction to Mark's DCC sound demonstration on the layout (see videos in previous entry) but a decision has now been made to make the new Eridge exclusively DCC controlled.   This is not a conversion of the layout as such, because layout wiring has barely started. It will of course reduce the complexity of the board wiring (or at least the power distribution to the boards) significantly because we won't need to incorporate all the sepa

A bit of trackwork that we never had on Mk.1, the down end of the platform loops have been closed so that we get an extra bit of scenic section before the fiddle yard, and a simpler fiddle yard entry with only two tracks instead of four.

There has been progress, honest

It's been a while since this blog was updated, and you might be forgiven for thinking that progress had stalled a bit - but no, even though the summer months mean more people are away than usual.   I haven't been up to see it for a while either, but I did manage to attend the week before last and might make a couple more this side of Christmas.   Trackwork is all down, bar the short new section with the turnouts on the down end of the platform loops, and work has been progressing well on ins

The additional bit of trackwork being considered

Following the comments in the last entry, this is the new bit of trackwork at the southern end that is being debated:     This is the bit immediately south of the station building/road bridge that defined the end of the scenic section on Eridge Mk1. It meant that there were four roads going into the fiddle yard, and because they were converging it gave rise to some alignment issues.   On the other hand, whilst two roads is better to manage, there is then the additional issue of the sceni

Progress Report 2013

Its Been a while since the last post but work has been progressing   Track Work   After countless hours propelling wagons and coaching stock back and forth ( Its a hard life BUT.....Someone has to do the job) followed by some fettling , the permanent way gang have now concluded all major work need on the track. Major Road Delays and Train Cancellations Expected Part 2

More Progress On Station Road Bridge (16/03/2014)   After a lengthy delay I am pleased to announce some progress on the road bridge build. Part of the delay was determining the height of the station building above the tracks. The only known measurements were those taken from the footbridge. Eridge Mk 2 - Update New Premises

Unfortunately we had to vacate our "shared" clubhouse at Cobdown and so in March 2014 we became a club with a large layout and no premises - not a good combination ! Hence the lack of posts.... but that has now changed.   The entire layout was stored Thanks to Richard in his garage while a new clubhouse was found. Anyone having gone through this experience will know that this is easier said than done. Ideally we were looking for a site that was central to our membership, secure, cost effective

Work and play

I made one of my too occasional visits to the KAG clubroom on Thursday to see how the rest of the team were getting on. It was a full turnout and so there was no room for everyone to work on the track. Some interesting stock appears

Well last Thursday we had a few guest appearances. KAG meeting 1st October

I managed to organise my work schedule around another visit to my 'other' area group last week to catch up on progress and do a bit more myself.   Here is Mark, Mike and Al (Pinkmouse) not getting in each others' way as the Eridge trackwork gradually gets more extensive       Chris had meanwhile pre-chaired all this rail before going on holiday - whether this is cause and effect we don't know .
