Vicarstown Engine Sheds

So, while I am busy 3D designing, 3D printing, building N gauge Norramby, and various other modelling projects on the desk my 4mm modelling itch has been getting unbearable. The loft layout although mostly planned still can't start due to more work that needs to be done, it's taking ages and I'm royally naffed off with it now.  Anyway, after seeing a few dioramas a couple of friends have been doing that don't take that much space up I decided to do one.   It'll offer potential for

Two 5700 Ducks Follow Up Video!

I made a blog here...   http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/483/entry-21325-a-tale-of-two-ducks-5700-conversions-many-pics/   Well here is a video of it!

Tidmouth-Vicarstown Hybrid Plan and Norramby Control Panel

If anyone can help with the above great, if not no worries. So what is this massive 00 gauge layout I am building in the loft? I haven't revealed much about how the plan looks, suffice to say I have been planning Knapford Junction and Tidmouth on and off with a thousand revisions since around 2010 due to the lack of space. It is also why I cannot do it in P4 but I can do it in 00, will be hand building some track to save money too and make it more realistic. P4 layout will go above as an end t

Tidmouth Engine Shed Circa 1910-25

It's been a while since I last posted about it yet the hardest bit is out the way.  Roof is crudely printed at 200 microns in PETG and needs some smoothing around the joins but I'm happy enough.  Overall impression once done I'm sure will be passable.   Wals are 3mm plasticard with thin brick plastic card overlays and 3D printed lintels n arches. Beed to add circular vents in the triangles and also roof vents.  Roof needs more strutting, pillars, filler and other things.  Pleased so fa

Super Hyper Cheap RTR Coach Bargains - UNREAL!

Had a great day today with Steamer58 from SiF (I'm a member too) who is on his massive vacation from the USA.   Today we were at the GCR/Great Central Railway. Lovely day for it too.   Anyway, it's the first time we met up and the day was fun. Cheers mate.   Whilst we were there we ventured to the swapmeet. More like a car boot sale but I picked up some hyper bargains....and I mean hyper!   Ok, here are the two pictures. One as an overview and another close up.     The 3 N G

Super Easy Dapol P4 Conversion

I brought a Dapol wagon the other day because it had Camp Hill on it which is about a mile away from where I currently live and I used to live there. Just appeals.   Anyway, as RTR wagons go it lacks fidelity but is cheap and in my case made a Peasy Easy conversion. It ran well considering it has no compo or springo.   For my wagon conversions, if they run without a faff then that is good enough. I do like springing and if building wagon kits I go straight for it if I can but if an RTR one i

Small P4 Layout Update 2

I'm sorry to hear that, what's the ailment?> or if best not to say then that's understandable too. Real life has to take precedence over hobby type things :| I've recently had 3 days off work with Gout again, so it seems many of us are in a similar boat (or...wagon?)! Baby update, well, not really an update as such. I've been 'playing' with the layout practicing shunting with the 4 wagons I've given Dingham couplings and that 57xx engine. So far I've found two areas of track needed twe

Small P4 Layout Update

Half a year a later I post a mini progress report. Progress is really slow, partly due to me making and converting wagons to P4 with Dingham couplings. So far I have four fitted with them plus the 57xx loco. Apart from the latches not always dropping I'm really happy with how the magnets and couplings work. Any advice on reliability? I've installed 3 electro-magnets and 3 push to make switches and wired them up through a chock block. I only realised later I could daisy chain some of the wring,

RTR Locomotive Unboxing Video Whingy RANT!

This video is NOT intended to offend anyone despite me being a bit aggressive, just having a whine on what I'm am bored silly of seeing in nearly all unboxing videos....and having a bit of a playful poke at how the format is generally played out! The opinions in this video are my own and again the intent isn't to offend but rather express my preference on how I think it SHOULD be done.

REAL Working Leaf Springs For Wagons P4.

Working Leaf Springs For Wagons. I'll just like to say, I'm unsure if I'm the first to do this. Probably not yet maybe, I've yet to see a post on the subject until now so I hope so, but whatever, I'm rather happy I've managed to bring this idea into fruition.   The idea has been cooking up in my head for a good while now. Firstly a disclaimer: Although unintentional, this post may erk Bill somewhat as the basis for this experiment is two of his spring units, and no doubt it's probably sa

Photobucket and plans update

Involves Photobucket.   I don't like uploading pictures manually to different forums as I usually paste them on a few so there is over 10 years on several forums of projects hidden to the world. Not paying $399 to resume as normal. A right pisser.   They updated there terms of usage on the 28th of June 17 apparently. 2 days ago, as a result...   "Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original

P4 Wagons - Update and mini conversion.

The E2 project isn't abandoned, I just need to get around to doing the body.     Ok, so, I haven't been on recently much as has been established for a bunch of reasons. My modelling progress has ground down to a halt and I've made little progress on my layout. Well, really it's almost none as I have been 'waggoning' more than anything and before I make much progress on the layout I wish to get Dingham couplings fitted to a enough examples to accurately test if I like them. This means I need t

P4 Radius Tests - Practical Experiments

As the title suggests really.   I've been planning a few layouts for a while and the big dream layout I have not decided whether to do in 00 or P4.   Initially I scrapped the P4 idea for this particular layout because the 'minimum'curve radius of 48" wouldn't fit. However, after spending several hours here and there reading posts on here and elsewhere it seems you CAN get a pacific or 9F around a 24-30" curve with a lot of side play and gauge widening.   With that in mind I redesigned th

P4 Layout Progress 05-01-2014

Here's some of what I've been up to on the layout. I haven't done much to it but enough for a post. Warning, no ground breaking modelling here, just bodging. If you remember above I nocked up an impression with my Vollmer Roundhouse pieces for the shed idea. Since then I've selected the best ones, cleaned them up, cut out small areas in the balsawood with plaster topping (concrete) to bed them in slightly and fixed them in place. I only chose to build it in situ because the board was a bit won

P4 layout popped -Onwards & Upwards!

Doubting this post will interest many for a variety of reasons but I feel it deserves to be explained fully.   A few days ago I ripped the layout up.   P4 too hard for me? Giving up? Nope, neither. All is explained below.   I originally designed the layout to utilise the P&C already built rather than build some new points. I built it as a typical P4 test plank as is traditional to get a feel for things, make mistakes on, experiment with new ideas, provide a photographic backdrop an

P4 Awkward Compensation Job & 0 Gauge Improvement from Crudery

To those on RMweb - I haven't updated this in a long time, less than at S4 because it took ages to work out how to paste due to RMweb making things a pain in the ass, so if you want to catch up you'll have to pop over to S4.       I haven't done much modelling for AGEEEES. I haven't been in the mood much and have had other things on the go that take priority, I have been doing a little bit of kitbashing and scratch building some loading dock but other than that not much.   I went Warley th
