Out N About - VLOG 15 - The Flying Bananna!

Bit of a slightly mad one this, I was awake for a very long time so I hope you'll forgive me for being groggy and slightly bonkers all at once, wasn't in my best of minds being awake almost 40 hours (by the end of the night it was) so there you go!   If you want to see the other parts again find them via the YT channel. I don't post many because not many of you post on my stuff so I lack motivation to do so.   Anyway, part 15...

Out N About - N Gauge - Help! & VLOG 4

Hello, below is the 4th video entry.   However I could really do with some help. I'm a bit of an electrical biff.   I'm reading a load of books and am understanding bits but I have two hurdles.   1) I'm modifying Peco code 55 (and maybe some 80) points to be more reliable/DCC friendly/Electrically like a hand built point. I have been doing the mods fine but how to wire them to Seep PM1's with the polarity switch is awkward.   All the online diagrams don't seem to make much sense to m

Out N About - N Gauge - VLOG 1,2 & 3

Following on from my previous update, for those who are or may be interested in N gauge, here are the links to the first 3 Video Log entries.         Hope you like them, as usual feel free to comment, good or bad.

Out N About - Small N Gauge Layout

What? N Guage?   Yup!   Don't worry, I'm not abandoning P4 or 00 as I have room for a few lyaouts, but going to add to it all. I want to try N as a tester to see if I like it and get on, if so will do bigger layouts in it probably.   So here is the first entry, a VLOG.     I haven't posted this on Scalefour as it is Scale 2 sort of and I can't see a blog or vlog making any sense there of this subject!

Dual Gauge Bodge Job! - P4-09? - Blog & Vlog

PFfwwwwouuf PFfwwwwouuf ppooofff. Just blowing the dust off this blog. Right then, what follows isn't 'quite' a turnout, but it sort of is as what is shown 'turned out' and the formation...turns out. I'll leave the correct terminogy for those of you who know better as I'm still picking things up. A dear friend of mine, sadly distant and rarely seen due to geography came down for a few days and we had a lot of fun (and frustrations!) bodging up a 009-P4 crossover with nothing but a single p

1st P4 Layout Update

Well well well, it's been a while hasn't it?   My small 1FT x 6FT P4 layout (Ok exalted test plank) has been gathering much dust. A layout of this size people typically complete in 2 months but I've been at it 4 or whatever years due to other commitments and bone idleness.   So here is an update. The area that was going to be a railway bridge, I said I buggered prospects of that up in an earlier entry due to the Dingham electro-magnets being in the way (Lack of planning!). As a result I turn

Super Easy Dapol P4 Conversion

I brought a Dapol wagon the other day because it had Camp Hill on it which is about a mile away from where I currently live and I used to live there. Just appeals.   Anyway, as RTR wagons go it lacks fidelity but is cheap and in my case made a Peasy Easy conversion. It ran well considering it has no compo or springo.   For my wagon conversions, if they run without a faff then that is good enough. I do like springing and if building wagon kits I go straight for it if I can but if an RTR one i

Advice Needed on Threads

Hello all, just a quick question as I'm really struggling to get my bonce around this one.   I put the initial SCC advert vid in this blog as I know some of you read it. But I also put a thread in the smaller suppliers trade section and I also put a thread in the 3D printing section.   Now this isn't to be a pest and over do the "take a look" thing to new heights of redundancy but honestly where is it best put because the 3D printing section makes perfect sense but so does the trade area.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE BELOW!

Greetings. If you have been wondering why my online activity and especially my modelling threads on the forums have been quiet you are about to find out why.   If over the years you have ever appreciated my locomotive modelling, kit bashing and related video's then you don't want to miss the next two video's I upload, especially if you are a railway modeller. Seriously...   I've quietly been working 8 or 9 months almost straight on a secret project known only to a select few.   Very soon

Kitbash Buildings for my mini P4 layout

Well, The first half of this post I already posted on S4 on the 12th of August, but as it took me an age to find out how to paste on RMweb (that 'light' switch - pointless?)I give you a double whammy to catch up.   Greetings all. I will have to look into the slate issue for my next build, thanks for the info. This layout itself is loose so I'm not to worried, but anyway, here is a significant update in quite some time.   Time for a Bash. I think this is the first time I have ever attempted

P4 Awkward Compensation Job & 0 Gauge Improvement from Crudery

To those on RMweb - I haven't updated this in a long time, less than at S4 because it took ages to work out how to paste due to RMweb making things a pain in the ass, so if you want to catch up you'll have to pop over to S4.       I haven't done much modelling for AGEEEES. I haven't been in the mood much and have had other things on the go that take priority, I have been doing a little bit of kitbashing and scratch building some loading dock but other than that not much.   I went Warley th

Cannot paste blog -- HELP!

Hello everyone, can you please explain why I CANNOT no longer paste a blog here created on Scalefour and Proboards etc as I always have? I've tried typing anything, highlighting and pasting the blog on top as I usually have to but now nothing happens. If I can't get this fixed I have a good mind to leave RMweb altogether because buggered if I'm typing the whole thing out again just for here.       Please help if you can. *Sigh*

P4 Layout Progress 05-01-2014

Here's some of what I've been up to on the layout. I haven't done much to it but enough for a post. Warning, no ground breaking modelling here, just bodging. If you remember above I nocked up an impression with my Vollmer Roundhouse pieces for the shed idea. Since then I've selected the best ones, cleaned them up, cut out small areas in the balsawood with plaster topping (concrete) to bed them in slightly and fixed them in place. I only chose to build it in situ because the board was a bit won

REAL Working Leaf Springs For Wagons P4.

Working Leaf Springs For Wagons. I'll just like to say, I'm unsure if I'm the first to do this. Probably not yet maybe, I've yet to see a post on the subject until now so I hope so, but whatever, I'm rather happy I've managed to bring this idea into fruition.   The idea has been cooking up in my head for a good while now. Firstly a disclaimer: Although unintentional, this post may erk Bill somewhat as the basis for this experiment is two of his spring units, and no doubt it's probably sa

Dingham's Modified - Now More Realistic!

How to bash them to look almost as realistic as scale couplings in a train.   I have a handful of wagons converted with Dingham's and so far am happy with the result, they operate well once you've got the hang of making them and compared to some other couplings they don't look too wrong in comparison, not to mention the fact that they are compatible with 3-link, Instanter and Screw scale couplings. I'm a little unhappy with the way the iron droppers look however, so what follows is an experim

More Waggoning in P4

OK, Back to 4mm. The first wagon is actually one you have seen before, only last time it had no numbers and the 'NW' was much much smaller. It was grating at me so I decided to give it a small make over to fit the 'company style' I've invented. Kind of a cross between GW for the lettering and SR for the tare weight and serial number positions, yet, NW. Eeugh. So, I've re weathered it to look a little newer. Still has my buggered plank that I quite like. This other one is a new one, t

0 Gauge 20T Brake Van - Scale Experiment

0 Gauge 20T Brake Van. Not exactly P4.       Why? Because I've always fancied having a crack at 0 gauge but am always put off by two things; lack of room for anything substantial and the price, often being around 8 times as much. It's a bit unrealistic for some of us. Anyway, when I was on holiday in Devon I picked up this Parkside Dundas kit for £40 save a penny. Thought I might as well have a go and see how I feel about things. I've decided to model it in Pre 1936 condition. Don't w

Big Update - 3 Subjects.

3 posts from S4 crammed into 1. ? 1) ---- I have a small update. Nothing mind blowing. I've rebranded the numbers to D3 in nickel silver by Fox-Transfers. Added all the buffer beam detail to both sides. Ignored the plastic screw link and forced a Hornby semi working one in instead. I had to drill a hole, file the hole and also file the stub on the coupling to complete the join. I've also fitted the letters to the front, but they look cack because I cannot put them in neatly to save my life

Small P4 Layout Update 2

I'm sorry to hear that, what's the ailment?> or if best not to say then that's understandable too. Real life has to take precedence over hobby type things :| I've recently had 3 days off work with Gout again, so it seems many of us are in a similar boat (or...wagon?)! Baby update, well, not really an update as such. I've been 'playing' with the layout practicing shunting with the 4 wagons I've given Dingham couplings and that 57xx engine. So far I've found two areas of track needed twe
