It's almost a year since the last post, so it's high time I get a couple more posts going on this blog. Those of you who read BRM on a regular basis will be aware of the articles over the past 12 months or so - creating the fencing, building a signal kit, weathering the station building amongst others, but that's the layout - what about the rolling stock?

Finally I've managed to get back round to working on Penmaenmawr. The next update can be seen in the June issue of BRM (on sale May 8th).
Work has commenced on the yard hut area, a small driver rest room and surrounding beds. I made use of some of Poppy's Woodtech LNWR fencing, but I won't spill the beans too much - you'll just have to pick up a copy of the magazine to read the full article.

It's not much use having a layout if there is nothing to run on it, and since progress has slowed I thought some of you may like to see some 7mm kit built M&M models dogfish ballast wagons which I have built. A few spare minutes at the end of todays session allowed me to take some snaps so that you can see what's going on (and what's not!). Some photographs of the signal box were available on Fotopic before it went under, so I'm posting a few pics here in case anybody may be interested.

Just a quick post to show the hut painted as it now stands. Transfers were created using GIMP with BR typeface working from photos of the original, then printed onto transfer paper. You will notice the signage is in English as well as Welsh. Paints are a mixture of Halfords, Revell and Humbrol (both old and new).
There are still a few details to be added to the doors on the container as I noticed they were omitted while uploading...

Well I know they aren't much to look at, even in 7mm, but the yard hut and container for the layout are now more or less complete. As with the others, painting will take place at a later stage. As usual here follow the real / model photos.

There is light at the end of the tunnel as the station building nears completion. A few changes can be noted when comparing the state of it now to the previous entry, however a few details still remain to be added such as:
- guttering + downspouts
- roof flashing
- finish the chimneys
- canopy supports and wooden entrance gate.
A few things might need filing/trimming to size yet, but all in all I'm pleased with the outcome. Everything added is in plasticard, glued by no more nails,
Time for an update as the last one was a while ago.
I've made a start on the station building for the layout this week. It is essentally the only structure of major significance on the layout. Due to the size and fact that hopefully the layout will see the odd exhibition, I've made the building in 5mm plywood (3mm on the roof) onto which plasticard will be added.
Although it does look a little rough at the moment, this will all be sorted out once the shell is covered. I did make a mist
Quick update this time. Making the platform edges is a slow process. I'm using 40 thou of plasticard glued with plasticweld to form the brick layers, and this structure is then covered with leftover scrap strips of brick plasticard. Since nobody that I am aware of does an English Cross / Dutch brick pattern, I am having to glue every layer of brick individually. A visit to Penmaenmawr last Tuesday allowed a few critical measurements to be taken, the station building, shelter and various other bits and bobs. Many photographs were taken as well as video. Not much to see though, a few 158's and virgin service to Euston.
On the layout, the retaining wall fascia in moulded resin is getting longer albeit only 4 hours currently being spent on the layout every week.

Work has also started on the fascia of the retaining wall that runs the length of the sidings which will be moulded in resin. I thought it was time for an update as the last one was some time ago. I've been busy with various things recently, exams notably. Since the demise of fotopic, I'll put the odd photo on here now. Last night more progress with the wiring was done, the 37 now runs or "glides" through two sets of points! If anyone is interested I could film the layout with something moving on it next time. Well, I was quite surprised as to how many of you looked at the last post. There must be more people here than I first imagined.
Anyway, as with all layouts trackwork is the most important bit. Getting it right is the difference between watching a train go by and watching a derailment.
So, Penmaenmawr being Penmaenmawr, the first thing the public see is the yard right in front of them. There are only 3 points on the yard that I am representing (four in total on the layout)
